If you've tuned into the news in the past few days, it's clear that the debate about health insurance reform has heated up as Senators and Representatives return to their home states and districts. A troubling trend has also emerged: as more people become engaged in the issue, defenders of the status quo have responded by muddying the waters with more wild rumors and scare tactics.
It's time for a reality check.
Today the White House is rolling out a new website that focuses on what reform really means for you and your family, debunks some common myths along the way and provides you with online tools and content to share the facts with friends, family and anyone else in your social network.
The first set of videos addresses a wide scope of topics and debunks some of those common myths:
CEA Chair Christina Romer details how health insurance reform will impact small businesses. Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes tackles a nasty rumor about euthanasia and clearly describes how reform helps families. Matt Flavin, the White House's Director of Veterans and Wounded Warrior Policy, clears the air about Veteran's benefits. Kavita Patel, M.D., a doctor serving in the White House's Office of Public Engagement, explains that health care rationing is happening right now and how reform gives control back to patients and doctors. Robert Kocher, M.D., a doctor serving on the National Economic Council, debunks the myth that health insurance reform will be financed by cutting Medicare benefits. In a video first released last week, Linda Douglass from the White House Health Reform Office addresses fears about the end of our private insurance system and reiterates that if you like your current plan you can keep it. There is also a handy FAQ about health insurance reform.
Moving forward, we'll use this platform to provide you with the latest "Reality Checks" and tools to combat misinformation.
We also want to hear from you. If you have questions about health insurance reform or suggestions on what topics we should address next, please let us know.
The road ahead will surely reveal more aggressive efforts from defenders of the status quo to confuse and scare Americans with half-truths and outright lies. We're all too familiar with the time-tested tactics that opponents of reform have used for decades to prevent the meaningful change our health insurance system needs.
Now, with what the President calls "the best chance of reform we have ever had," its time for citizens across the country get the facts about reform and work on the grassroots level to add a healthy dose of reality into the national discussion on health insurance reform.
Seems to me that kind of stuff used to be against the law, back when we still had a nation under the rule of law.
Yeesh, they are all formerly “Obama for America” lawyers and polysci majors. But their groupthink and inability to talk to the heartland will be their ultimate downfall.
Yep, a hard working bureaucrat taking a few minutes from her busy schedule to explain Obamacare to us simpletons.
They are blinking. The opposition from real American Citizens to the communist agenda of Øbama is putting them to their knees. So it is working. Pour it on for full steam ahead and grind the communist monster into dust.
I have a long-time, since high school friend. She is a Democrat and works in a local government office of Democrats working for an elected Democrat. That sets it up for you. Often, though, she is not straight, party-lie oriented. But when I wrote to her about my concerns about this HC bill she wrote back with her dribble that, basically, showed she had NO IDEA what was in the bill.
She gave me the tired, feel good about yourself line that so many have on this: That it will help the poor woman who makes only minimum wage with three kids who can't afford insurance...and even though there might be some things wrong with it...she is willing to "give it a try." Give it a try?
Meantime her mother is in a nursing home with Alzheimers. Wonder if she is happily willing to let her MOM be a TEST FOR Obama's need to rule with an Iron Fist!
It makes me want to cringe. She is more concerned about some possibly fictional woman than her own mother!!!!!!!!!!!!
And BTW she also admitted to loving her insurance plan coverage...government workers coverage. Now...if all government workers would be ordered to TEST THIS PLAN FIRST...Then they would see what is wrong. And we could watch them squirm. (My apologies to any on here who are government employees, however.)
The simplest question derails this entire healthcare bill;
If ObamaCare is so great, why is Congress exempt from it?
Read a tweet this morning of someone who has some good info on the Iran election that said something like “Dems, let the GOP mob keep going and they will pay for it in 2010” and I’m thinking “Wow, how out of touch you are lady!”
I talked to a democrat yesterday who fully supports 0bama’s health care plan. I asked if he had read any of the bill and he said no but he supports the President anyway and that the bill has not even been written yet.
Good point Rome, I hadn’t even thought of that.
They read the emails, but not the bill...........
Two more questions: What will it cost me personally? How will you pay for 47 million new patients without tax increases and/or rationing?
It's time for a reality check.
IOW, "Roll up your pants, men - it's too late to save your shoes!"

Posted earlier — seems to fit here also . . .
With all the fishy flip-flopping this administration is doing on all the issues I have become confused. I confess, dont know a fish from a phish!
I received one of those phamous emails from Nigeria, or maybe it was Kenya, telling me that one million U. S. dollars had been deposited in an Øbamacare bank account in my name and all I needed to pay to claim the funds was $1500.00(US) for shipping and handling.
Right away I smelled a fish, or is that phish, so to be on the safe side, I forwarded it to phlag@whitehouse.gov, (or maybe that was flag) attn: Linda Douglass.
. . . most empowering experience Ive had since I killed a slug in my vegetable garden last week.
So does he think someone just sat down and wrote 1100 pages of fantasy? Sheesh, this drone would probably support his own death warrant.
Is it designed to communicate just with "Whitey"?
No one can or will believe them for one simple reason.
Have any of the so called experts in the propaganda bullcrap on the WH web page READ THE BILL?
