Health care that will kill us
By John Browne
Sunday, August 9, 2009
The president's new health plan has garnered much criticism, as has his handling of the economy. Until relatively recently, America had an economy, currency and health system that was the envy of the world.
Today, the economy and currency look sick. There is an urgent need to curb entitlement spending and boost infrastructure spending to lift the economy and strengthen the currency. But the president appears intent upon a course that will boost entitlement spending at the expense of investment in infrastructure.
Much of it will be spent on a massive government health plan that threatens the physical health of Americans. In America, there is an old saying that "while the rich get richer, the poor get poorer." The proposed health plan threatens to make the sick sicker.
It is generally accepted that a solid infrastructure is an essential ingredient of a modern, economically successful economy. It also is accepted that America's infrastructure is in a state of advanced decay, needing $1 trillion to restore it to health. Some economists assert that for each trillion dollars spent on infrastructure, 3.5 million real, wealth-generating jobs are created.
Therefore, if the government were to spend $1 trillion on bringing U.S. infrastructure up to standard and a further $1 trillion on improving it, that would create 7 million jobs. This would restore both full employment and the economy.
Faced with this opportunity, it is amazing that President Obama appears to be intent upon pursuing a debt-financed, multitrillion-dollar spree on entitlements such as education and health.
While jobs will be created, they will be wealth-consuming and a drag on the economy.

I am dumbfounded! How did this piece of logic get past the editors of “pravda at the point’?
This was written in the Burgh? Wow!
I have always been so puzzled that Obama, Hillary, Democrats in general over the years, seldom talk about the experiences with socialized medicine in other countries.
They always talk in generalities about how “unfair” or “costly” our system is; at how “greedy” doctors or HMOs or insurance companies are, BUT, they never talk about whether socialized medicine, IN ACTUAL PRACTICE, solves the problems with healthcare delivery or cost.
It seems to me a “no brainer” that, in considering a massive change to a big piece of our economy, that we should study the good and the bad about the plans in other countries which have already put these plans in place.

They rarely, if ever, talk about freedom or liberty either.
If you have 17 minutes and want to better understand the health bill, then this town hall presentation by Rep Brady of TX is a great one.
I was so impressed, I thought it deserved it's own thread. ---------
Highlights:
Reps received the 1,000 page bill at midnight and were expected to vote on it at 9:00 the following morning according to Rep Brady of Texas.
CHECK OUT THIS FLOWCHART! 31 NEW mandates and agencies between you and your doctors.
Doctors from TX Medical Center stated they have had no input and have no idea how this plan works or how it affects our patients.
Health Choice Administrator mentioned over 200 times in the bill. Discussed.
In five years, the plan is to push people from private to the gov plan.
No new enrollees in private plans.
Private health spending accounts completely controlled (micromanaged...cannot use $ to purchase over-the-counter meds.
Comparative Effectiveness Council...running into the rationing element...compared to other countries. One out of every ten Canadians cannot find a family physician because the shortages are so high.
Studies comparing gov run health care models, one is 50% more likely to die from cancer under those models. Those with prostate cancer in England are twice as likely to die than in the US.
Brady discusses his amendments that would jump critical needs patients to the front if the wait time was too long, dems killed the amendment.
Congressional Budget office says this plan will NOT reduce cost and the gov doesn't have the money to fund it.
Mandates on businesses and individuals discussed. Best estimates that his office received was that small businesses will be forced to cut 4.5 million jobs as a result of these mandates ans tax penalties.
Half of all small businesses will fall into the area that gets taxed.
In 39 states, it pushes individuals into a tax bracket higher than 50%.
How do they get around funding?
Holy Fukk!...the first four years you are taxed but receive no new services under the plan.
Medicare now costs nine times more than the gov estimated. what will happen with this plan?
Offered amendments that force Congress to use the same plan. They voted down the amendment.
Suggests that we should focus on the people who cannot get or who are not covered under insurance now. Alternatives discussed.

If someone would want to post this as a separate thread it would be appreciated.
Sorry ping because I couldn’t find the thread
