No angry mobs, but tough questions at Maryland town hall (PG county against it??)
CNN ^ | 8/7/2009 | Peter Hamby

There were no angry mobs or Nazi SS symbols at a health care town hall in Maryland’s heavily Democratic 4th Congressional district on Thursday night, but the member of Congress in the spotlight did face some tough questioning from small but vocal crew of administration critics in the audience.

(snip)

Mark King of Germantown — who warned that the President is implementing socialist policies — compared himself and other administration critics to those who rallied against King George during the American Revolution.

“If we just reflect a little bit, this is how the country got started — people came to town hall meetings and they expressed their opinions,” King said.

Another man, John Peele of Prince George’s County, made a different historical comparison, likening the Democrats to Nazis and suggesting that Obama is like Hitler because he began his term in office as a well-liked national figure before consolidating power. Peele also questioned Obama’s citizenship.

“It’s national socialism,” Peele said of the administration’s economic plans. “I don’t want national socialism. I want freedom. You don’t want to sign your life over to something that they have total control of.”

All of the health care reform critics at the town hall were residents of the 4th Congressional District and said they had come on their own volition as concerned citizens.

None of them said they had been directed to the town hall by interest groups opposed to health care reform – an allegation levied by top Democrats throughout the week.

However, one Democrat from a neighboring Congressional district, Eunita Winkey, said she had decided to attend the forum after receiving an e-mail from Jason Waskey, the Maryland state director for Barack Obama’s political organization, Organizing for America.

People act like Price Georges County does not have Conservatives. Sheesh even on election day the Republican gets 25 percent. The people who are going to these town halls are Republicans who do not like this. Why are people acting like the whole county is against this. It is probably 75 percent for Obama Care and 25 percent against in PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY. These are not your typical liberals going to these town halls to show their displeasure about Obama Care. It is the Republicans.

Really, and you come to that conclusion based on the PAST election. THINGS have changed. If your still in Italy, maybe it’s time for a vacation home.

Edwards denied that people would be fined for choosing not to purchase health insurance; pledged that undocumented workers will not be covered under a government plan; and said the health care plan will not hurt the majority of the country’s small businesses.

Yup and there will also be a middle class tax cut, 95% of you will not see any tax increase, not income tax, not payroll tax and not capital gains tax. LOL and Santa will come down all your chimneys on Christmas Eve and fix all your medical problems.

I wish I could come home for a vacation. Since I can’t I will take your words as truth. Things are bad for Obama and we will take over 60 seats in November 2010 and 10 Senator seats. I like when the senate is split 50/50 anyway.

I just watched a townhall clip on youtube where Harkin claims no illegals on the plan and that we will be getting the same coverage that he has access to.

I was born and raised in PG county but now live in Howard. There are still some conservatives left in PG.

"This was in an IBD editorial today concerning the fascist takeover of America:

"Truth is, there's nothing more American than revolting against heavy-handed authority, be it a long train of abuses from a king or the lawmaking of elected officials with strong authoritarian urges. This is a nation founded on independence, and there is a large portion of it that wants to retain that priceless heritage.

From what I've seen the last two days about the TH's I think the union thugs failed in their attempt to silence the protesters.

I’ve yet to see a nazi symbol at any meeting, but they lead off the article by saying there weren’t any at this particular meeting.

The dems are lying and making things up like whirling dervishes - Imagine what these liars will do and say once they screw up your health care?

It is a simple matter of trust: If you trust your govt you will love this healthcare plan. If you trust your Representative are doing the people’s business you will love this plan. If you believe govt is responsive to the folks need you will love this plan. Herein across the board lies the problem: Folks across the board know in their heart of hearts govt is not to be trusted nor our Representatives. They filibust their answers or hide. The folks know something fishy is going on.

Hey...who the hell are you?

I’ve noticed you slamming repubs and acting all liberal like on many threads.

Keeping an eye on you.

First, Prince Georges County is heavily Democratic. But those people going to the town halls there are NOT all Republicans...what’s your basis for asserting such a thing? You got proof?

There are few, few Republicans in PG county but like everywhere else, there are some. But to say that the people going to these town hall meetings are ALL republicans...

Who’s paying you?
