AZ 2010: Glassman eyeing McCain's Senate seat, some Dems say [AZ Rats want to take McCain down]
The Arizona Daily Star, Tucson, Ariz. ^ | 2009-08-09 | Daniel Scarpinato

If John McCain thought he was running against a young 'un in last year's race against Barack Obama, wait until he sees the guy some Democrats say might take him on next year for the U.S. Senate.

There's talk that Tucson City Councilman Rodney Glassman — a 31-year-old hyper-energetic first-term council member — could very well carry the flag for Dems in a race many see as a cinch for ol' Mac.

Seems that Glassman, with his eyes on a higher prize than representing Tucson's Ward 2, has two main options before him should he choose to run for statewide office in 2010.

Initially, Glassman's quest seemed to be for secretary of state, the state's No. 2 office and a steppingstone to the governor's office for many of its holders.

But lately the talk is all about this rising star challenging McCain, a fourth-term incumbent and former presidential candidate.

Why? Well, the theory is that Glassman, whose family owns a successful fertilizer business in Fresno, would have one big advantage over other Democrats — namely, money. Plenty of it.

And Democrats generally think McCain's national ambitions and his recent voting record, like opposing Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court, will catch up with him in a growing, heavily Hispanic state like Arizona.

Quite a jump from city councilman to Senator.

I would think that their were better known and better financed pols in AZ that would be up to running against McStain.

So AZ dems want almost the same thing conservatives want, to get rid of McCain.

Someone is running. A minuteman leader, name of Simcox.

Sadly I doubt he has a chance. I’d vote for him if I lived in AZ.

LMAO. 3rd tier at best.

Yeah, you’re like the nuts who wanted Obama to win the Whitehouse rather than McCain.

Look what we have! People who have this opinion are the scourge of the Republican party.

You usually have two choices: A Republican you don’t like and a Democrat. It happens all over the USA all the time.

People like you gave us Obama. They didn’t want McCain [as you’ve indicated] ... so they give us a Democrat [like Obama].

People like that are smug. They think they know it all. But now Obama will change the entire face of America for decades. Some things he destroyed will never be restored. It is people like you, who think like you, who are giving us people like Obama.

So enjoy Obama, you gave him to us. You don’t have McCain ... you have what you wanted.

Big surprise, THE DEMS WANT TO TAKE DOWN MCCAIN. So what, I’m a republican and I want our party to take him down.

Be careful what you wish for.
Now if McCain’s opponent is a true conservative, I might reconsider. But if it’s a run-of-the-mill Democrat opportunist hack, forget it. I’d stick with Sen. McCain. At least, I know where he is coming from.

It is people like you, who think like you, who are giving us people like Obama.

Let me ask you this: if McCain had been elected, and he had proposed cap-and-tax, more government meddling in health care, an economic stimulus, and a blanket amnesty for all of "God's children"--all of which were certainties--would you have fought as hardly against McCain as you now do against Obama?

I would wager that an honest answer from you would be no.

One only has to look back at the Bush years to see that conservatives were fairly quiet about continued increases in spending and the size and scope of Government. The only real fight that conservatives put up was against amnesty and against cap-and-trade. On everything else, they were largely silent.

So, get a grip. Stop blaming the voter for the failure of a political party to live up to its promises. It's not the voter's fault that the Republicans have revealed themselves as largely Democrat Lite. Nobody here wanted Obama, and quite a lot of folks here didn't want McCain either.

You lose.

Your list of pings is a sure give away.

Enjoy Obama ... If you can’t pick the lesser of two evils, you deserve the worst. I, however, have my hands full trying to fend off the cr*p coming from this administration.

BTW, I have no problem with the individuals on your ping list. It’s just that the person [that’s you] who has to pull in a cadre of supporters who then gang up on the other side is a jerk.

I still don't want McCain. I don't want him in the U.S. Senate, on the local waste management board, sewer committee or any other public office. Same goes for Giuliani...

Good post...

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. A number of posters on here would turn the other way when McCain pushed all the policies that Obama has....which on many of them McCain supported.

Unfortunately, too many believe that Republicans are automatically conservative.....and we end up with McCain and others like him
