For Dems, a new public enemy No. 1 (Dems targetting Michele Bachmann)
The Politico ^ | August 8, 2009 | Alex Isenstadt

Posted on 08/08/2009 4:04:50 PM PDT by St. Louis Conservative

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is outspoken, conservative, media-friendly — and for many in the Democratic Party, a new public enemy No. 1.

Now that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is out of office, there are few Republican officials in the country Democrats would rather unseat in 2010 than Bachmann, a two-term congresswoman with a habit of pushing the buttons of liberals on everything from ACORN to global warming to even whether President Barack Obama is, as she once asked, "anti-American."

"She's definitely somewhere up there," Bachmann chief of staff Michelle Martson said of where the Minnesota congresswoman sits on the Democratic campaign hit-list.

Bachmann has long been on the receiving end of pointed jabs on liberal blogs like Daily Kos, where one commenter wrote a few weeks back, "After having just returned from a trip to Minnesota, I shake my head that such a beautiful place would be represented by such an ugly individual as Bachmann."

Ask Democratic officials in the state about Bachmann, and they can barely contain their anger.

"She is a bizarre news story of the month every month," said Brian Melendez, chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.

"Michele Bachmann is just nuts," said Jeremy Powers, a local DFL chair in Bachmann's district. "She is just an utter embarrassment."

And some Democrats — Powers included — don't hesitate to compare Bachmann with the aforementioned Palin, another conservative lightning rod in her mid-40s who speaks with an upper-Midwestern accent, is the mother of a large family and touts a stridently socially conservative agenda that Democrats regard as outright right wing.

The reason I have conflicting feelings about Joseph McCarthy.

I adore Michelle Bachmann - my husband and I both contributed to her campaign - and support her completely. She attends a sister church in the WELS Synod, which is a conservative organization - NO relation to ELCA or LCA.

That being said, I worry that she can be elected outside a Lutheran heavy area. Her religion (and mine) will be twisted out of recognition by those tho practice the politics of hate.

And of course she will be hated. She is conservative, outspoken, devout, and highly moral person. All attributes the left despises and spits upon.

Private studies, decades after Joe McCarthy’s day, showed that his hunch was quite right about the presence of USSR sponsored radicals in our midst. Joe was, however, painfully likely to single out the wrong individual persons for accusation. This was his Waterloo.

Yes sir, not to mention the witch-hunt-style he proceeded along. The fact that a neighbor barely saying something to set off an investigation was scary. Ooops, should I say is scary? Things to think about.

Now we’re growing these bastard weeds at home and there’s no need to strain at any hint from a neighbor. They’re quite blatant.

>> See all that pile of blue? That’s Michele’s district.

I understand about Minneapolis - St. Paul going for Frankenstein.

But what’s the deal with that solid red northeastern Minnesota? Not that many votes there (relative to the Big City anyhow), but why so solid for Franken? Please enlighten me.

The reason I have conflicting feelings about Joseph McCarthy.

'Ol Joe would need a rather large staff in these times to root them all out.

Would work better than the stimulus package too.

The Rats are now targeting Congresswoman Bachmann for destruction, using the very same tactics they have honed against governor Palin. She’s going to need our help to fend them off. Is there anyway that we can build a support bridge between the already significant Palin online community and the burgeoning Bachmann community so that both can mutually support one another, if not actually merge at some point?

Friendly Point of Order: after governors leave office, they retain the title of Governor, eg. Governor Palin, not former governor Palin. Sorry to say, that also applies to awful governors: eg. Governor Sibileus (gag).

It also applies to presidents and senators. I know of one exception. When Lloyd Bentsen resigned his senate seat to become Secretary of the Treasury in 1993, Governor Richards appointed Robert Krueger (the DemocRAT senate nominee who came within 25,0000 votes of knocking off Senator Tower in 1978) to be a temporary senator till a special election could be held. Kay Hutchison almost got an absolute majority in a crowded field in the special election, but she absolutely slaughtered Krueger in the runoff with 68% of the vote. After spending much of his inherited car dealership fortune in two unsuccessful senate races, he was appointed ambassador to Burundi by President Clinton rarely to be seen again. Nowadays if he even gets mentioned in the media, he is called Ambassador Krueger.
