NEW YORK – Monotone TV personality Ben Stein has been stripped of his Sunday New York Times business column because of his work as a pitchman for a credit monitoring company.

New York Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis released a statement Friday that said the newspaper decided it would not be appropriate for Stein to pitch for FreeScore.com while writing his column.

Ben has gone off the deep end.
The government “needs the money.”
Indeed.

Sometimes Ben can't get away from being a Jew. He has written some great columns and his “Diary” in the National Review was usually entertaining. He did dwell on his race/religion and that was a turn-off as far as I was concerned.

As I remember, Ben said he was supporting Franken not based on religious ties, but the fact that they were both ‘Hollywood types’......

he didn’t “discover” Jimmy Kimmel... Jimmy Kimmel has been around the LA Radio and TV scene for 15 years.

I’ll bet the NYT couldn’t afford to pay Ben any more.

Ben Stein is an interesting fellow who seems to know something about economics (although his not anticipating the housing meltdown is inexcusable) but I've never been influenced by him on political issues. Ben Stein strikes me as being politically 'independent' and only 'conservative' on selected issues. That's fine but it makes his political opinions less meaningful when they seem to be based on shifting principles.

As a conservative that supports Sarah Palin and thinks Al Franken is a leftist loon, I parted company with Mr. Stein some time ago on political issues.

>>He’s too conservative for them, but if you look carefully at his past, Stein is really more along the lines of the McCain/Nixon country-club progressive statist Republicans.<<

Yes indeed- McCain, Stein, and Nixon belong to the Eisenhower Era of Big Goverment.

I don’t have the link available that lays that all out, but, I believe it was the the personal maximum allowed. Make no difference. He supported Franken and that’s all I need to know.

BTW....Coleman is a Jew, as well, so Ben supporting Franken due to religion is a non-starter.

Ben Stein got old pretty fast for me ... I used to read his columns, first (I think) in the American Spectator, and enjoyed them ... for awhile. Read them for awhile in News Max mag, too. Now I just skip them as a matter of course. Too often I get the feeling, as he speaks about his precious kid, his work, his lifestyle, etc., that he’s pretty smug, a “Don’t you wish you were me?” kind of thing. I’ve been guilty of the same thing at times, I’m sure, and find it as unattractive in Stein as I’ve found it in myself. Maybe that’s why I don’t care much for Ben Stein’s columns.

Just because someone is staunchly anti-abortion, it doesn’t mean he’s not a liberal and wouldn’t betray the core principles of conservatism. If Ben Stein gave money and support to Al Franken, as some here say he did, then HE’S A FAUX CONSERVATIVE, FAUX REPUBLICAN. His stance on abortion becomes irrelevant.

More likely his recent turn-around on Obammy. He is on FOX which is anathema to libs. Truth hurts their eyes.

While I agree his firing was politically motivated, I also agree those “FreeCreditReport.com” or whatever ads are beyond the pale. People, you can get a FREE credit report for FREE for REAL via Equifax. This service he advertises is a scam.

Have you ever been to the Equifax site? They give you one free and you sign up for a monthly charge of $12.95 for monthly reports.

FreeScore.com has the same Free but $14.95 for reports from ALL three agencies including Equifax. Thus, you get the "$12.95" Equifax report and for $1 each you get reports from the other two agences. Now, who is the scammer? FreeScore.com (3 reports for $14.95) or Equifax (1 report for $12.95)?

He supported Ralph Nader for President and does not believe in supply side economics. He also has great praise for Al Sharpton. Other than that he’s a great guy.
