I would guess that four years in the military helps assimilation quite a bit!
What reasons would you give for the problems with Puerto Rican assimilation.
That colonial attitude still pervades to this day. There are a lot of White Mexicans in Mexico. Your local illegal immigrants don’t look like the White Mexicans. That’s because the White Mexicans in Mexico pretty much hijacked Democracy and Republicanism in Mexico. The only threat to white imperialism in Mexico are the peasant Indians, which the imperialists in Mexico send across our borders, making us have to take in a group of people who know nothing of federalism, republicanism or individualism. If we had a president with balls (Or a good set of ovaries), the pres would stick it to Mexico some way or the other.
I don’t know, I just know they have not assimilated as well as other Hispanics. I would look into the fact that they mostly concentrated in the NY area and bought into racial politics. Had they been spread out nationally, and come in the 1980s instead of the 1950s, things might be different. They might be like the Vietnamese or Haitians.
