Obama taking family to Yellowstone, Grand Canyon

So here we are in August, time for a little summer vacation. President Barack Obama is taking Michelle and the kids out on a Western swing to see some of America’s most famous national parks.

Next Friday, August 14, they will fly out to Bozeman, Montana and the next day will visit Yellowstone National Park, home of the Old Faithful geyser, in nearby Wyoming. Later that day they head to Grand Junction, Colorado.

On August 16, it’s on to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. They end up in Phoenix for the president to address the convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Weather prediction: It’ll be hot in Phoenix. They’re back in Washington on August 17.

What about their Martha’s Vineyard vacation? When is that? Backing up to Labor Day? At $20k/week, maybe shorter vacation there since they DO have to pay part of the fee (deferring the bulk to SS/WH Staff)

I think its a security issue. Marthas Vinyard is open to the sea and harder to secure than a trip to travel locations in the interior US. Another thread on FR is relating unusual Israeli cabinet activity. I think an Israeli strike on Iran may be imminent. The US Congress are all dispersed to their districts and Obama is out of DC. This would be a possible window for military action on Iran. When and if that happens Iran will activate all their sleeper cells here and in the ME.

What's important about it is the feeling a growing number of Americans have in their bones that Obama is foreign -- to our traditions, loyalties and shared understandings about the nature of America. In a way the legal debate matters less than that bone-deep sense that Obama is fundamentally "Other than American"
