25% Agree With Pelosi That Health Insurers are ‘Villains’
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 08/07/09

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared last week that health insurance companies are “villains,” and 25% of U.S. voters agree with her.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% disagree with the speaker and don’t believe health insurers are “villains.” Virtually the same number (38%), however, are not sure, a finding which should give insurers pause as the health care reform debate intensifies.

Fifty percent (50%) of Republicans disagree with Pelosi, as do the plurality (45%) of voters not affiliated with either major political party. Thirty-seven percent (37%) of Democrats share her view, but 19% don’t. Yet all three groups have sizable numbers who are not sure.

Still, 80% of those with health insurance rate their own coverage as good or excellent. That’s up 10 points from May.

Higher-income voters are generally less critical of health insurance companies than those who earn less. Voters who make under $20,000 per year are evenly divided on the question.

Pelosi in remarks to reporters on July 30, as reported by The Politico newspaper, said, “The public option — that’s where the insurance companies are making their attacks — it’s almost immoral what they are doing.

“Of course, they’ve been immoral all along,” she said. “They are the villains in this. They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening, and the public has to know. They have had a good thing going for a long time at the expense of the American people and the health of our country.”

Just 35% of voters support the so-called “public option” - a government health insurance company to compete with private health insurers - as President Obama and congressional Democrats propose in their health care plan. Fifty percent (50%) oppose a government-run health insurance company.

Forty-one percent (41%) of voters have a favorable opinion of the people opposing the health care reform plan at town hall meetings now being conducted by members of Congress, but 35% don’t.

Just 14% of voters give Congress good or excellent marks this month, the lowest rating for the legislators since February.

Fifty-six percent (56%) say Congress is doing a poor job, up nine points since June and the highest level found since October of last year.

Americans are closely divided over the health care reform proposals working their way through Congress, but most remain convinced that the plans will raise costs and hurt the quality of the care they receive.

Only 25% of the American people are a-holes? Then how did Captain Zero get elected. Democrats better start doing the math otherwise Obama will be holding his you know what in the Oval Office for the next 3 years.

25%...isn’t that about the same percentages for Hussein’s good approval ratings. Alas, 25% of this country are in dire need of a brain.

And they want to change that.

And THAT's what p!sses me off!

I don't particularly like what it costs me to buy my own HSA insurance with after tax money, but I have the minimum deductible. After getting the old post-50 roto-rooter exam, I met my $1200, Blue Cross picks up everything now for the year, even up to and including my $4 generic Blood pressure meds.

Even had an MRI of my brain, unexpectedly prescribed at a 10 AM routine hearing test with an otolaryngologist at his office, pre-certified and pre-approved by BC/BS by noon, and performed at the local hospital at 1 PM.

I've seen nothing in this takeover that causes me to think I will receive any better treatment than THAT, nor pay any less than I am paying now.

After getting the old post-50 roto-rooter exam

lol!

Been there, done that...just last year.

I hate what I pay but I have pretty good coverage. I emailed my request for a dr visit just earlier today and got a callback within minutes. I have an appt. Monday @ 10am. I think it's a safe bet that with socialized healthcare that kind of service won't be possible nor will the care recieved.

So let’s see — if 25% agree with her, then wouldn’t 75% disagree with her?

I'm not changing my opinion because Nazi Pelosi swerved into a truth here. Insurance companies are some of the worst thieves in the world and I'll be damned if I'm going to defend them. They rake in billions and then make a big stink when it's time to pay out a measly little claim. We all know this.

However, there is an organization out there that is far worse, and that is the government. Why? because they can and do take it from you at the point of a gun and then redistribute it to those whose votes they wish to buy. That makes insurance companies look like altar boys by comparison.

It's sort of like comparing the Mafia to Stalin. Sure, one is bad, but the other is a monster.

Yup. Gummint is the #1 thief. Especially the SS ponzi scheme. Any private retirement that yielded such a pathetic return would be under investigation.
