I used to spend summers in Crete, firing missiles into the Med.
At times, the constant influx of NATO soldiers and sailors can be a bit much, especially in the port cities.
One of our battalion’s sergeants was arrested and convicted of raping a local Hania/Xania/Chania woman (you wouldn’t believe how many ways they spell that city’s name).
Well done, Ma’am.
I remember, ‘Christmas day in Souda Bay, New Year’s eve in Tel Aviv’
Also Canea. Ancient Kydonia/Cydonia.
Mallia is about 24 miles east of Heraklion/Iraklio, the largest city on Crete, and is the site of the third-largest Minoan palace. I went there once to see the ruins, and fortunately did not see any British tourists.
I have to disagree. Everybody loves to hate tourists and soldiers, but the also love to make their living off of them. Setting someone on fire is never the solution.
