This guy was disgustingly drunk. I’ve heard of women getting drunk - and falling on a table - or flashing a step from ‘upstairs’ or two - but I have never read of a woman pulling down her pants in public, and trying to force herself on others.

This is baaaaaaaad

"again, there is no evidence other than her word that he had exposed his genitals."

Again, reading each story is like hearing two completely different events took place. So we really don't know what happened.

However, if the first story was true, I'd say that she was well within her rights to defend herself -- and I stand by that. Time will tell.

true... both stories are a he said/ she said... but we do have the injuries.

if he was exposing himself, and this is why she lit him on fire, then wouldn’t his ‘parts’ also be burnt? but they are not. instead, he is burnt from his neck to his belly button, which is basically the front of his shirt (and where ever the liquid would run down after that)

her story that she lit him on fire because he was exposing himself falls apart right there. so either he had stopped showing himself PRIOR to being splashed (since any liquid would have lit), or he wasn’t exposing himself.

either way, it seems very fishy (quick... report this to the whitehouse!)

While the Brit was a total A-Hole, there was too much thinking on the part of the woman to call it self-defense

I respectfully disagree. Guy comes and wags tool at lady. Lady says go away. He doesn't. Lady throws spirit at tool. It probably stings (never tried it, don't want to!). Guy still doesnt' go away. Lady finally fed up tosses ciggie. Self-defense I say.

The situation would never have arisen if he hadn’t been

I don't think it was because he was drunk. He must be a natural yob to do that when drunk. Serve him right getting crispy fried chicken...

she was in no danger of being raped in a public bar.

there was a gang of drunk britons, I'd say it was a scary experience for her. They could have done anything. She did good, scared all of his mates.

sounds good. so burning, stabbing, and shooting would all be ok when confronted with a persistent drunk person

Not really. If the drunk is basically the carousing, singing drunk, no violence needed. If the drunk is violent, tell them to go away or get their mates to take them away. If the drunk gets a bit pushy and or molests someone, push him away. But here, he did more than that and wouldn't back down.

This is the extreme case and he deserved what he got

If your kids got drunk and sang to a woman who didn't want to be sung to, ok, no violence would be justified. But if they attempted to molest her, a push would be justified. If they tried to do more, then more violence is justified.

Not to mention that Little Willie will never be the same.

He's mortefried. He'll never trust a female type again.

Of course, not all Brits (and I know you didn’t mean all, just reiterating to our friends across the pond). I blame it on the steep decline in religion and it’s accompanying loss in morals and also the 11 pm bar closing time that encouraged binge drinking

you've obviously not seen a British hen party. They pub hopping and are pretty disgusting. I guess it may just be a British binge drinking thing...

I guess he'll never get any more burning passions again.

unless this was a flash in the pan rather than a burning bush sign...

He wasn't a persistent drunk person. He was a persistently sexually assaultive drunk person.
He grabbed her. She said "stop".
He assaulted her again. She poured Sambucca on him.
He went after her a third time. he set him alight.

just want to understand the rules.

I would suggest the following advice to anyone looking to avoid this sort of thing:

1). Above all, understand the culture of the country you are traveling to. He got his hot dog roasted in Greece. In some Middle Eastern or Asian countries, he's have been imprisoned, tortured, or worse.

2). Don't get out-of-control drunk.

3). Don't sexually assault women.

4). Don't visit any other country, think the laws or customs don't apply, sexually assault a woman while out-of-control drunk, and expect any sympathy from the locals. Because in most cases, they won't have any.

HTH

Don't get out-of-control drunk.

if you DO, there needs to be a designated driver -- a sober guy who will control the drunks.
