Noonan: ‘You Are Terrifying Us’
WSJ ^ | 8/7/2009 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 08/07/2009 5:24:37 AM PDT by markomalley

We have entered uncharted territory in the fight over national health care. There’s a new tone in the debate, and it’s ugly. At the moment the Democrats are looking like something they haven’t looked like in years, and that is: desperate.

They must know at this point they should not have pushed a national health-care plan. A Democratic operative the other day called it “Hillary’s revenge.” When Mrs. Clinton started losing to Barack Obama in the primaries 18 months ago, she began to give new and sharper emphasis to her health-care plan. Mr. Obama responded by talking about his health-care vision. He won. Now he would push what he had been forced to highlight: Health care would be a priority initiative. The net result is falling support for his leadership on the issue, falling personal polls, and the angry town-hall meetings that have electrified YouTube.

In his first five months in office, Mr. Obama had racked up big wins—the stimulus, children’s health insurance, House approval of cap-and-trade. But he stayed too long at the hot table. All the Democrats in Washington did. They overinterpreted the meaning of the 2008 election, and didn’t fully take into account how the great recession changed the national mood and atmosphere.

And so the shock on the faces of Congressmen who’ve faced the grillings back home. And really, their shock is the first thing you see in the videos. They had no idea how people were feeling. Their 2008 win left them thinking an election that had been shaped by anti-Bush, anti-Republican, and pro-change feeling was really a mandate without context; they thought that in the middle of a historic recession featuring horrific deficits, they could assume support for the invention of a huge new entitlement carrying huge new costs.

Bingo.

So was it worth 3 trillion in debt, global abortion funding, End of Life counseling, and socialized medicine to get their non-vulgar cosmopolitan Harvard Alinskyite in there? And avoid whatever annoyed them about Palin as a VP? That's a LOT of payolla just to satisfy anal-retentiveness. But, hey, he's suave and articulate on Meet the Press. Selling the socialist snake oil.

Thanks for linking to DTN. I am very familiar with David's site and wish more people would spend time exploring it.

She drank the Beltway KoolAid...baby-step fascism is good because it's achievable, if unsatisfying to the grifters. Smash and Grab fascism is bad not because it's evil, but because it is harder to get away with.

Noonan believes the unwashed masses are losers to be looted.

If Palin speaks up

Palin is scheduled to speak at the Reagan Library tomorrow, if memory serves.

I don't know. Maybe Peggy came to the realization that being on the invitation list to all the beltway aparachik cocktail parties wasn't worth selling out her soul and our freedom and liberty for. Welcome back Peggy. We'll try not to put 'too much God' in Sarah's State of the Union Address in 2013.

Anybody else in?

It's easy. I just include flag@whitehouse on all my anti-Obama email.

I do despise the waste incurred by middlemen.

I'm thinking some violence...not dead people mind you...but a little thuggery could help the cause.

If a union thug attempts ANY physical agression, the citizenery should reply in kind.

You forgot to include US taxpayers

That is unfortunately true as well. We are being made to subsidize those who wish to destroy our way of life. And they wonder why we’re angry.

Feh... totally predictable that the DNC would attack the protesters. It’s their way of saying “don’t worry about all the flak, it’s just a bunch of outside agitators... come back to Washington and vote to kill the old people. It’ll be ok”

It won’t be ok. They do this, there’s going to be another house cleaning next year.

Actually, I’ve had a theory, don’t know how likely it is, that the churn is going to continue for some time in American politics. People didn’t vote the rats in, they voted the pubes out. Now they may sweep all the rats out and vote new pubs back in. It’s the only way to have term limits in this stupid system.

Of course he knows it wasn’t a mandate but he’s going to portray it as such as much as possible. He wants to get as much passed this year as possible because next year the critters won’t touch it in an election year.

The danger was in pushing so much that the voters end up remembering it a year later. He’s really f’ing up his own movement. They’ve been proceeding nicely with fabian tactics for the last 50 years, 100 years really, but now this child wants it all right now. Either we’re going to throw the bums out in a little over a year, or we’re going to be headed down the road Germany went down in the 1930s, and it will. not. end. well.

Peggy has her ear to the rail and she can hear the train coming. If this matter accelerates as it is at the moment, 2010 will be a political firestorm of epic proportion. Some of the pros are getting very uneasy about this, and scenes of union thugs beating protestors isn't going to help the matter at all.

What Noonan is really suggesting is that 0bama and his staff start behaving as she fondly fantasized they would when she flew to their support in '08. It isn't obvious why they would even consider doing that - it isn't even obvious why she ever thought that they would.

Noonan continues to miss the point. What could it possibly be about "insurance reform," an issue which interested few if any real citizens before it was made a cause celebre, that warrants the regime sending out its battalions of union thugs and racist brownshirts to wage war against the nation.

This does not make sense. Yeah yeah the 'rats want to socialize medicine, but why is it so important that it is worth instigating violence over it? Clearly, this fight has little or nothing to do with healthcare, or health insurance either. Wish Noonan and the rest of the dullwitted gop'ers would ask themselves that question.
