Yes -- STRONG, OPEN-SOURCE, 2-KEY ENCRYPTION
E.g. GnuPG/PGP (or similar), strong/long keys, and change them periodically.
Frankly, I've been encrypting my private data and transmissions for years, it's easy and quick, and I think anybody who doesn't is a trusting fool.
The world is a nasty place. Deal with it...
