It's just one state. But its one of the centers of African-American culture and influence in the nation. Atlanta, with nearly 6 million residents in its metro area, is home to hundreds of top black musicians and other entertainers, civil rights leaders, and business entrepreneurs. Janet Jackson, Usher, Tyler Perry, and Andrew Young are just a handful of the many big names that can be found moving about the Georgia city on a given day.
That's why I was startled when our firm, InsiderAdvantage, conducted this past week two separate surveys about various issues for corporate clients in the area. Both polls were conducted on the same night. To keep phone respondents on the line while the poll quizzed them on rather mundane subjects, they were told they'd be given a chance during the questioning to offer an opinion on the job performances of certain political leaders.
I was shocked when one survey showed President Barack Obama with a disapproval rating of 35 percent among African Americans in Georgia, while the second one had it at 38 percent. Those two results are statistically identical, as both polls had margins of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

I don’t have any trouble at all believing it. I know a black lady who lives in the Atlanta area who voted for BO. She’s very easy to discuss politics with, doesn’t get pushy or belligerent. She was saying the other day that she still somewhat supports obama but is wavering. However, her mother and sister didn’t vote for him and cannot stand him.
As long as they are less likely to vote for his allies in 2010 I’ll take it.
You are right. They voted in 2008 but they will stay home in 2012. They will never actually vote AGAINST Obama. They just won’t vote. They might even say he was the victim or something or another but they still will vote only with their feet and not show up.

BO - Body Odor...it stinketh more with each day in office.
Maybe you are right, but maybe they will vote AGAIN based on race. I trust them not, and never will again.

Disapproval is far removed from “For whom would you vote if the election was being held today”..... In other words they can disapprove of him but still pull the lever for him on election day.

Many African Americans in Atlanta are extremely successful and fully integrated into the upper class neighborhoods. They don’t like paying taxes or the thought of losing what they’ve earned either. They may talk a good game (pro-Obama), but they also enjoy the lifestyle that a high income provides.
