Jimi had gone to England and gotten with I think Pete Townsend at a Who recording session and listened to Jimi play and he immediately got on the phone to Eric Clapton and John Lennon and told them to come on over. He’d something they all needed to hear. Something that would raise the bar just a bit.
Raised the bar a lot! Only one even remotely close was Jeff Beck! And he was held back by the Yardbird’s desire to record hits. You had to listen to fadeouts to hear his stuff!
