You shoulda bought an Opel Manta. I have no idea how many Celicas I trounced, but I can tell ya, it was every one!
Actually I did look at some Opels. But iirc I didn't like the design (looks). And the Celica I bought was sitting in the dealer window, the lights shining off the metal-flake Gold paint said: 'Buy Me'.

And it wasn't a slouch driving wise for a four-banger & auto tranny. It gave my buddy and his Datsun 240Z a run for its money on the highway - up to a point. And took high speed turns really good.

My issue with it was it folded like a tin can. I had an accident -- not my fault -- and when I went to take off the rear license plate at the body shop's lot -- the BUMPER BENT when I had to pry the plate holder with my screwdriver.

I thought screw this, so I bought a big honking 'pre driven' '72 Cadillac Sedan DeVille (w/ 472 V8) as a replacement. That Caddy was fully loaded, had every option available, even automatic temperature control. And the tires were brand new Goodyear Double Eagles, even the spare, cost about $200 each back then. I felt like I was steeling it from the Caddy dealer.

No. The Corolla is a fine car. Ford has made improvements, however, and should be in a good position provided they keep Alan Mullaly in charge. Government Motors and Fiat Chrysler on the other hand...

“Other than that the Corolla is the most boring, noisy, slow car I have driven (a rental) since my ‘74 Vega, nope, no problem.”

Glad to hear I’m not the only one that thinks so. I’ve driven them and find them very buzzy. When my mom went shopping for a smallish car a few years back she looked at the Corolla, Sentra and Civic, but ended up with an Elantra which was actually more comfortable, nicer inside, cheaper, and at least no more buzzy than those cars.

Yes.

Toyota builds Corollas for sale in the US in Aichi, Japan, Cambridge, Ontario, and Fremont, CA.

A slight majority of Corollas sold here are built in either Aichi or Cambridge.

Almost no work on design and engineering for the Corolla was done in the US.

Don’t get me wrong, the Corolla is a good vehicle, but they are too reliant on overseas engineering as well as imports of vehicles still. I could care less where the headquarters building is, though.

Actually, they wouldn’t necessarily be.

There’s a good reason the Focus may have lost the sales lead. Ford is literally running out of them. Galpin Ford has been whining on the news for days that they’re completely out of the Focus, Fusion, Escape, and Transit Connect and are having a heck of a time getting any of those from anywhere.

You can’t sell what you haven’t built. :)

But I should add that my biggest beef is that it is nothing but a giveaway to people who made irresponsible decisions to buy gas guzzlers they clearly didn’t need, all on the public dollar.... and all this is doing is stealing future sales...
