ST JOHN'S, Antigua Antigua's highest mountain officially became "Mount Obama" on Tuesday as the small Caribbean nation celebrated the American president on his birthday and saluted him as a symbol of black achievement.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer presided over the re-christening ceremony at the base of the mountain, unveiling a stone sculpture and plaque honoring the president as an inspiration in the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda and throughout the Caribbean.

I can’t wait till everyone realizes Obama is a dismal failure and quickly go back and rename all this crap to their original names.

Eventually the muslims through violent expansion will build a mosque there and declare it one of their most holy places.

Omitted from this article is the former name for this modest peak, Mount Arrogance. Tourists will soon be offered guided walking tours named, appropriately enough, “Journey to the Heights of Arrogance”.

Aside from what we do know of Obama, his last name is a bit more poetic than the mountain’s previous name, “Boggy Peak”.

Can the mountain produce a birth certificate, school records, passport? If not it’ll be just like its namesake.

What gets me is how people can be so ridiculous as to name monuments and mountains and what-not after a person who
has no record to speak of. It just exposes them to serious egg on their faces ...Obama just came from nowhere, got elected president just a few months ago (and who knows if he'll even keep that), and has no track record of note to speak of. Yet kids are sewing beads and Antiguans naming mountains!
It is ridiculous!
Naming of things should only happen once someone has finished whatever task/mandate/term/objective they are doing, and once the final tally is done and it is deemed a success worth of the monument, then the celebrations done. Naming things at the start of someone's run, with signs of that run being rife with problems and mistakes, is just silly.

That’s funny. :) The original name of the “mountain” though was “Boggy Peak.”
