The jet statement is incorrect United had been flying in and out of the islands using DC8s since 59. The DC8 was a very hot airliner capable of sustained 500 plus mph.

But what fraction of the flights were DC8s or 707s? And did the jets fly to Seattle?

Can’t say for sure about United but Northwest, then Northwest Orient, was flying DC8s and Boeing 720s out of Seattle to Hawaii and points West
