BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. -- Several people were reported shot at the LA Fitness gym in Bridgeville, emergency officials confirmed for WTAE Channel 4 Action News.
The reports came in shortly after 8:15 p.m. that authorities were called to the gym at the Great Southern Shopping Center at 1155 Washington Pike. Emergency officials said as many as 15 people may have been involved, but their conditions were not immediately known.
Witnesses told WTAE Channel 4 Action News that the victims shot in the gym were in a class in the aerobics center at the time of the shooting.
Former WTAE Channel 4 Action News photographer Gary O'Data said at 9:10 p.m. that the entire shopping center was shut down. He reported seeing as many as 15 ambulances and at least 20 police cars.
Clerks at neighboring stores told WTAE Channel 4 Action News that they locked their doors as a precaution.

Charles Whitman’s spree was cut short by people shooting back. I remember reading about it when I was a boy. Once the Texans realized what was happening, the perp was pinned in the tower by the locals who went to get their guns. It is too bad they didn’t have a sharpshooter in the bunch, but I recall reading that the perp couldn’t get a clear shot at anyone once the Texans started shooting back and eventually became so frustrated that he offed himself.
A nightmare! I used to be an aerobics instructor about 22 years ago.....used to look out for weirdos trying to peek through the curtains but never thought about such a horrible act occurring.

You are absolutely right about the Texas civilians giving back to Whitman as good as they were getting. And, you're right about them stopping him killing more people - there's a lesson there.
But, he didn't kill himself. He was gunned down by at least one cop, maybe two. I think he was riddled with bullets.
Oh yeah. He was blasted with multiple shotgun blasts.
Could be like Marc Lepine or George Hennard. They were misogynists that went on a killing rampage.
That’s horrible. We’ve had a string of mass shootings earlier this year in Germany, Alabama, and New York.
Protocol then was not for the citizens to wait for the cops to handle it and for the cops to wait until the shooting stopped before they went in.
I wondered because niether station is mentioning it again. They’d make a really big deal about it. Here’s prayers that she’ll be okay. And the baby.
And of course CNN, FOX, MSNBC and everyone else is back on repeats....useless “24-hour news” networks.

That’s actually a strange thing to say IMO. The “old fart(s)” who make that comment are still in their day (unless they have already passed on!!).
Renee, my husband just pointed out that our local media had just been thru a live catastrophe just four months ago (when the three Pittsburgh Police Officers were shot). Sadly they have a point of reference on how to cover something like this.
I was listening to a Nicole person (she was interviewed on tv) who was in the class and she said the shooter wasn’t even a member at the gym.
Local 2 and 4 have gone back to regular programming. WPXI still with it. Reshowing interviews.
