How about a person goes to the newspaper and asks permission to use their archives to do research. Pulls the approprate micro film tape cassette and gives them a blank when he leaves for the day. He takes the original home, removes and duplicates the film with the addition of the fake record, then inserts the bogus film in the original cassette. He then returns the next day to "continue" his research, and swaps in the fake for the blank. You now have an original cassette with a an un-spliced film containing the bogus notice in the newspaper's archive. Sandy Burger would be proud...
It would be "do-able" but would require some not so common skills and equipment plus cash. $oro$?

PS The company I used to work for kept all our older engineering drawings on microfilm. We duped back up copies when we added more records to the file. They were kept out of plant for security.

This family was involved in some shadowy organization. CIA, KGB, ..what I don’t know..They could have easily done it.
To have such a black hole in the records..it probably is at least the CIA.
