Democratic Rep. Paul Hodes (NH-02) believes reading every bill in Congress “would slow down the business of Congress to a crawl and it would be hard to get done what needs to be done.”
Hodes, who is the sole Democratic candidate in the race to replace the retiring New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg, made the remarks during a recent editorial board meeting with the Nashua Telegraph.
“Hodes said it’s not realistic to expect members of Congress to read every bill word-for-word, as Congress took more than 2,000 votes in the session that ended in December,” the paper reports.
This year, Hodes voted in support of President Barack Obama’s stimulus package and for so-called cap-and-trade legislation. Both measures were finalized late in the legislative process and rushed to a vote before any individual member could read the bills.......
NAPLES — Until recently Bobbie French drove a 2002 Chrysler Voyager. Then came the Cash for Clunkers program. French jumped at the opportunity to trade in her clunker for a brand new, more fuel-efficient ride.
French made the trade and drove home in a brand new vehicle.
For most people, that’s where the story ends. For French, it was just the beginning. Now, the dealership is demanding that she return her new car, or pay $4,500 that the government won’t reimburse.

French stressed that she is not made of money, and doesn’t have the extra $4,500 to spare. She said she put $5,000 of the purchase on a credit card, and financed the rest.

Not surprising. I was at a dealer here and asked if they were getting money from C4C, they hadn’t gotten any but were taking in clunkers, however, they hadn’t destroyed them either.
No it isn’t and you have to wonder how much of that is going on. People driving “clunkers” probably shouldn’t be picking up “new car” payments.

WASHINGTON. D.C. – Following reports that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has been orchestrating an effort to intimidate members of Congress and Governors who raise legitimate concerns regarding the effectiveness of the stimulus, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) sent a letter to Emanuel saying “While this type of scare tactic may work In Chicago, it will not work to intimidate me or other Members of the United States Congress.”
“I and others have dared to bring these facts to the attention of President Obama, the Congress and the American people,” Issa wrote. “You’ve unfortunately reacted by once again resorting to the playbook of the Chicago political machine.”
Last month, Politico reported that Emanuel had “launched a coordinated effort to jam” Senator Kyl and other Administration critics… “[A]fter seeing Kyl and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) again paint the legislation as a failure on Sunday talk shows, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel directed that the letters from the Cabinet secretaries be sent to [Governor] Brewer, according to two administration officials.”

Does anyone know what Rush is talking about re:the crowds and propaganda? I missed it.
Funny, I thought you had to be preapproved before driving the car off the lot. If C4C said “yes” and she drives away then the auto dealer better seek out a lawyer and sue for their $4500 that the C4C commission isn’t ponying up.
But, then again, I read a couple of days ago that you have to sign a piece of paper that says if the gov’t doesn’t come through with the cash, you will return the car to the dealer. Who in their right mind would sign such a thing?
She’ll be the next sad sack story Obama uses to steal more money from our great-great-great grandkids.
