It’s a trade, right? I’m sure Hillary wouldn’t mind.

Then again, maybe he’s angling for Kim’s job!

My other punchline:

Saruman goes to NorDor to visit the NorKs!

UPDATED AT 1:00 A.M. EASTERN

Clinton landed at Pyongyang (north of the city) about 2 hours ago.

He was met at the airport by SENIOR OFFICIAL, Kim Gye Gwan (the North Korean counterpart for the failed Six Party Talks of Bush/Rice/Chris Hill), so the Japanese news reporting was very skeptical.

They also reported the following:

Japan was blindsighted by this completely, but kind of expected the kowtow mission.

Judging by the turnout at Pyongyang Airport by the level of Communist officialdom, it looks like it will not only have to do with the 2 liberal reporters, but also warming relations with Pyongyang (in other words, Pyongyang's nuclear threats and actions over the last three months have gotten what they wanted; a route to discussions resulting in resumed aid to North Korea).

Officials are being extremely hushed on all sides about that because they do not want the US concessions to be made public.

Japanse journalists also pointed out we have come around to full Clinton approach on North Korea, i.e. to coddle them and bend to their negotiating tactic.

Clinton may well extend his visit to Pyongyang to further the bilateral "discussions".

Finally, this of course has the full blessing of Obama. The plan was to send Al Gore to North Korea. Secret negotations between Obama's people and the North Koreans were carried out with the North Korean mission in New York City out the light of scrutiny for a long time. The talks hit a snag, and started to go nowhere, so they scrapped sending Gore, and ended up with getting the Royal Flush, a full, former US President.

Bill Clinton may indeed meet directly with Kim Jong il.

(All Japanese TV news sources, primarily NNN network and NHK, about one hour ago).

If former Emperor Billigula could put down the copy of 'D-Cup Magazine' long enough to read "The Aquariums of Pyongyang" by Kang Chol-Hwan, he might (possibly) change his view of Comrade Chia Pet's criminal regime.

Breaking:

North Korean radio and press reports ran with this story just a little while ago, in Korean.

They stated that Clinton had arrived in the DPRK.

Japanese report I just read too, a few minutes ago, said,

NORTH KOREAN NEGOTIATING POSITION TO RELEASE THE TWO WOMEN TO CLINTON IS FOR NORTH KOREA TO RECEIVE AID (EITHER MONEY OR FOOD)

Stated that the talks will probably escalate over and above the mere issue of the two reporters. The North Koreans are going for broke, hardball.

North Korea demanded high level US officials come to Pyongyang.

US said no.

They sent Clinton instead.

This was worked out in New York City through some outfit called "New York Channel" apparantly connected to the United Nations.

A South Korean TV station said Clinton was not accompanied by any senior US government officials.

Chinese Xinhua news service at Pyongyang could not get any comment at all out of Clinton. When they went to the North Korea PR officials, they also refused to say anything about Clinton's visit and objective.

Wouldn't that be something if Laura and Euna said, "Mr. President, we thank you for getting us out and all. But we would, uh, rather, prefer to take a separate plane out of here home than the one you arrived on." I guess if I were Euna's husband or Laura's parents or sister, I MYSELF would not want her traveling with The Rapist upon return, and I would probably wire them to go back out through some shoddy Chinese airliner to Beijing with crappy food and no seat belts. Man that would be a long, long flight back in a small aircraft with Bill Clinton as an under-35, attractive Asian woman. They would probably request to stop by :Number 47 Comrade People's Department Store' on the way to Sunan Airport and ask if they have iron chastity belts.

US National Security Council is saying NO COMMENT.

Japanese press reports Clinton is on his own, meaning it was a chartered jet. Touched down at 10:48 a.m. today at Pyongyang. He is on his own capacity and own funds.

Further report from Yomiuri news: North Korea will use (or is seen using) the women as a bargaining chip, to avoid US insistence North Korea talks in a forum with US and four other countries, and demand direct US-North Korean talks over it's nukes that it has. It is trying to leverage the women in meeting Clinton to get assistance and a good deal from the West.

THIS is what we have been saying on FR for three months!

Only we thought it would be Algore going up there foolishly and risking a potential hostage taking of himself.
