WILLIE BROWN: Schwarzenegger stepped in a pile of politics
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/2/9 | Willie Brown

Posted on 08/02/2009 1:23:49 PM PDT by SmithL

It's a basic tenet of politics: When you get into a pissing contest with a skunk, you wind up smelling as bad as the skunk.

Arnold Schwarzenegger forgot that lesson during this last budget fight. His polling numbers are almost as low as those of the Legislature. Unlike his past setbacks, when he was able to rebuild his image with newfound money, this time the economy is working against him. And from the looks of things, so is everyone else in Sacramento.

I suspect his final cuts to children's health care and AIDS programs were made more out of anger at Democrats than sound thinking. They will haunt him for the remainder of his term.

And this idea of closing state parks is absolutely nuts. For openers, even if you close parks to the public, you still have to police them - otherwise, they will become camps for crime.

I can already see the marijuana seeds being planted.

. . .

I was at Third and Market, and this homeless guy hits me up: "Hey Mr. Brown, I need to leave this town. I can't make it here any more and you could be helpful."

I said: "How can I help get you out of here?"

Right then, a cell phone goes off. I start to reach for mine and the homeless guy said, "No, no, that's mine."

"You have a cell phone?" I asked.

"Hey," he said, "You got to keep in touch."

I don’t agree with Willie much but do enjoy reading his articles...the man seems to be pretty sharp for a democrat. Like Ed Koch sometimes also...they both seem to call them as they see them.. If I remember correctly he had praise for Palin....
