50 Palestinians evicted from their Jerusalem homes

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli police evicted two Palestinian families in east Jerusalem on Sunday, then allowed Jewish settlers to move into their homes, drawing criticism from Palestinians, the United Nations and the State Department.

Police arrived before dawn and cordoned off part of the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah before forcibly removing more than 50 people, said Chris Gunness, spokesman for the U.N. agency in charge of Palestinian refugees.

U.N. staff later saw vehicles bringing Jewish settlers to move into the homes, he said.

Israeli police cited a ruling by the country's Supreme Court that the houses belonged to Jews and that the Arab families had been living there illegally.

Gunness said the families had lived in the homes for more than 50 years.

The status of east Jerusalem is one of the most explosive issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel took control of east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it, a move not recognized by any other country. Since then, Israel has to boosted the Jewish presence there, building neighborhoods where about 180,000 Jews live. The Palestinians want east Jerusalem as the capital of their hoped-for state.

Organizations linked to the Jewish West Bank settlement movement also have bought properties inside Palestinian neighborhoods in Jerusalem and moved Israelis in.

Well, if the court ruled that the Arabs were there illegally, then the police have to remove them.

Why should the UN and the State Dept. protest the rule of law?

Then Israel is shocked and dismayed that the Palestinians act like animals.

Here’s a hint. When the Palestinians act like animals, brutally butcher each and every one. Show no mercy, if they want to slaughter children, send them to Allah to account for their crims.

On the other hand; going into a neighborhood where people have lived for 50 years, and forcibly evicting them and then moving Jewish settlers into the same house is going to incite bad behavior - even a child knows this.

Why provoke rabid animals?

Misleading headline. It should say,
"50 Arab squatters evicted from Jewish Jerusalem homes"

Because the state department can't do anything out of character. Similar action for Honduras, eg. revoking visas, helping zelaya in various ways.

You know Jews also make bread with the blood of Palestinian babies? (Common muslim lie about Jews.)

I give this story from the AP and UN just about as much credence as the above, esp. With respect to the surrounding facts.

It’s like here in the states where the media calls illegal aliens “undocumented citizens”.

Wait, let me correct this.

The Palestinians want east Jerusalem as the capital of their hoped-for state. If they can take it from Israel, more power to them. If not, they shouldn't expect Israel to give it to them...

Given how anti-Israel the state run media is, I am going to boldly claim that there is more to this story than is being stated.

2 families == 50 persons?

Even Pacoima doesn’t have this kind of space density.

"Palestinians evicted from homes"

"Elves evicted from toadstools"

What do these two headlines have in common?

That's right, the subject of both doesn't actually exist.

"Palestinian" is a term invented in the latter half of this century to create a bogeyman to rally Muslims around against the legitimate owners of Israel: The Jews.

Apologies. I meant "in the latter half of the 20th century".

In the latter half of this century, the term will have fallen completely out of use.

Why is it that I have this uneasy feeling that we’re not getting the full story from AP?

Exactly. I bet they sold the homes to Jews and then refused to move. Perhaps because they were threatened by PA thugs if they did.

Don't forget to add one minor detail.
"After having lived there, and raised families for 50 years."

Then Israel wonders why the Palestinians hate them, and strike against them 'for no apparent reason'. This action will result in how many innocent lives? Sometimes Israel is their own worst enemy, this one act will cause thousands of Palistinians who were passive to become outraged. This example will be the battle cry for calling every crackpot who wants to kill a Jew into action.

I'm sure he knows that for a fact, and didn't just uncritically regurgitate whatever the Arabs told him. /sarc Since the Jordanian Hashemite regime expelled all Jews from territory it controlled, my only question is, what took the Israeli gov't so long to boot the squatters? Jerusalem has been Israeli-controlled since 1967.

Khawla Hanoun, 35, who lived in one of the homes, said police ordered her and 16 family members to leave the house before dawn and forced them out at gunpoint when they refused.

There's so much missing from this article, it's hard to tell exactly WHAT happened.
