Good points, camusaret. Car welfare, plain and simple. How about cash for knick knacks around your house? We could call it Cash for Clutter. :-) Think of all the ways it would stimulate our economy. and help people get that much needed second bird figurine or whatever their desire is.

Yes, yes! DeMint is trying to change the conversation to what this does to your freedom, not just the cost of this monstrosity.

Wallace keeps cutting him off before he can finish his point.

I just love Jim DeMint.

There are lots of great ideas out there, but not one of them is in this hideous bill.

Rangel makes sure to get in the demonization of the insurers.

The number without insurance is now 50 million, according to Rangel.

Morning AB, All...

Watched Fox News Sunday. Saw Charlie Rangel going on about how the new taxes for the healthcare Big Brother bill will only come from 1% of the people and I screamed at the TV...WE ARE SURE YOU WON’T BE ONE OF THEM MR. RANGEL!

For the man own homes and cars and all sorts of things that he does not pay taxes on it and he is never called on it.

Because racism, or the charge of same, is nothing but an excuse to get away with bad behavior.

Witness OJ...witness that Gates man....witness every person of dark color who misbehaves and gets a free pass because to question it is to subject yourself to charges of racism.

And we can’t have that.

Larry Summers, arrrrgggghhhh. He’s so hard to watch! We only expected to get 10% of the total jobs we wanted to get from the stimulus, in 2009. Great planning!

Gregory pushing him on the 8% unemployment figure that they were trying to avoid. Summers, we didn’t know how bad the economy was last winter.

Summers goes on to spin how many jobs have been saved. (We prevented cops and teachers from being laid off.) Saved jobs....yeah, that’s really measurable!

DeMint is hitting one home run after the other.

Good point that your children and grandchildren will be paying for these cars.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan said on Sunday that signs of stabilization and increased confidence in the economy could be dashed if home prices were to take another turn downward.

Greenspan told ABC’s “This Week With George Stephanopoulos” that he didn’t believe that a steep drop was in store, but home prices had stabilized only temporarily.

“It is possible that could get a second wave down,” Greenspan said. “Under those conditions, we would get a very significant change in the underlying confidence in the consumer area,” as foreclosures rise and more home values fall below their mortgage levels.

Our "award-winning" "mainstream" news media does not want "average" Americans to know too many details. I looked up the numbers of annual sales in America and found on the website of NADA National Automobile Dealers Association that 16.1 million "light duty vehicles" were sold in 2007, and 13 million in 2008. So let us say that without any government programs of 'stimulus' at least 10 million vehicles would have been sold this year. That works out to almost 200,000 vehicles every week.

The fact that decision makers in DC are pretending to be shocked by the 'success' of this program is another example of their a)stupidity, or b) their belief that American voters are stupid.

From a Bloomberg article:
U.S. Auto Sales May Reach 2009 High on ‘Clunkers’ Aid July 31 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. auto sales may reach a 2009 high in July after the government’s $1 billion “cash-for- clunkers” incentives program lured shoppers back to showrooms. Industrywide deliveries will run at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 10.1 million cars and light trucks, based on 7 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

Washington Post today. Very critical of the clunkers bill and thinks that maybe the washing machine industry could use an incentive too. More than a little sarcasm from the comPost.

Wallace wants to argue with him.

Wallace has just got to ask Pence if he is running for president.

The Beltway question that so intrigues them. The game they so love to play. They are always in a hurry to pinpoint who it is they have to go after and destroy next.

The Republican party sure looks a whole lot better and more sensible when we have guys like DeMint and Pence out front instead of the horrible John McCain.

Correction: the Cash for Cluckers congressman was Jeb Hensarling, not Paul Ryan. I like them both.

Actually, if that Cap and Trade bill becomes law as the House passed it there will be a "Cash for Clunkers" plan for appliances.

I read quite a bit of that bill prior to its passage. There is a section called the "Best in Class Appliance Protocol" in which appliances will be rated for energy efficiency every year. Consumers will be given money on their old, inefficient appliances IF they buy the top rated new appliances. Appliance retailers will be given bonuses based on how many of the top-rated appliances they sell.

I can only think that this is a big giveaway to GE, and that this "Best in Class" rating system will be completely based on WHO makes the appliances and how much they donate to the democrats.

In addition, repair of old appliances which are not energy efficient will be outlawed. So we are going to put appliance repairmen and some manufacturers out of work, penalize poor people who can't afford to buy new or who don't have good credit, and no doubt subsidize GE.

No matter how stupid and thuggish I think the democrats are, they always manage to confound me.
