This is an "exclusive" from the NY Daily News -- a leak from the Clintons' permanent campaign staff. It proclaims that:

"Hillary Clinton's camp is election-ready."

Whaat? I thought we just had one of those.

But no,

"Hillary Clinton says running for office isn't on her "radar," but she still has an eight-person political team and sports two overflowing campaign war chests. ... Clinton's failed presidential bid is now $1 million in the black, and her old Senate campaign committee has $2.1 million in the bank, much of it transferred in from the presidential account."

Hmmm. Does Obama know he has a traitor in his ranks?

Actually Hillary started her renewed campaign last Sunday. Mark that on your political calendar: July 26, 2009. Before last weekend, she was hard to find in the headlines. But now we know that she is MilitantlyAgainst Iranian Nukes.

Translation: All you Jewish Democrats, send your money to Hillary Clinton's war chest to keep Obama from kissing the hem of the Ayatollahs.

Until now Mrs. Clinton was effectively checkmated by Obama and the Gang from Chicago. Hillary Clinton is our SecState in title, but in his Soviet fashion Obama appointed multiple Commissars to keep an eye on her. So we have Dennis Ross for the Middle East (oops! just got fired for being too pro-Israel), George Mitchell, Rahm Emanuel, and one Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Obama, President of the Politburo and General Savior of Humanity. They all do FoPo, when they have a moment to spare from really important stuff.

And then there's Veep Joe, the official Federal Commissar for Comedy Relief, who makes up his own foreign policy on the spot. Says Joe about Russia, "They're ... clinging to something

I think this is what’s happening at camp Hillary! :

1. She reads the tea leaves to guage the public support of Barry and his policies.

2. If all is well, she sticks around at State and then runs again after Barry if she does not look like Helen Thomas (Botox permitting) — there’s no way in heck that Joey-Joe-Joe Biden is going to make a run.

3. If Barry is tanking, she expolits this as a “centrist” - claiming that Barry’s policies are too far left and runs as the moderate dem.

There is no reason to keep a campaign staff ready unless there is a possibility of running (as far as I understand it).

Never go there! I had people tell me that nobody could be worse than George H. W. Bush, I had people tell me that nobody could be worse than Bill Clinton, I had people tell me that nobody could be worse than George W. Bush, my own father told me that the biggest mistake the American people EVER made was to elect Ronald Reagan! Don’t even think the thought that nobody can be worse than Obama or you are liable to be proven wrong, God Forbid! I may have said it myself already, my memory is not what it used to be but if I did I now renounce the thought.

The idea was that the government should be so limited in power that it doesn't matter how bad the exec is at any one time. The Founding Fathers knew better than to trust in the goodness of officials, so they built a system that limited both the harm a bad President can do, and the harm that great power can do in turn to the man who has it.

Now we have an imperial Presidency that can make a monster of anybody that takes the job. And not only the President, but also the myrmidons of the federal bureaucracies, who, although they individually have less power, their anonymity shields them more effectively from responsibility for it.

Great power is like a mind drug: it distorts reality for its user, and it is habit-forming. Not many can take it and resist the effects — usually only those who already have a great power of their own. Little people, empty suits and such, otoh, can be counted on to go bat-guano crazy with the first hit. Observe and learn.
