Canadian Health Care: The End of Innovation?
John Stossel: Government Controlled Health Care Means Waiting Lines, Serious Drawbacks
By JOHN STOSSEL, ANDREW SULLIVAN and ANDREW KIRELL
June 26, 2009

President Obama said that the government is going to "fix what is broken about health care in America." It sounds like a great idea, but often what sounds good has unintended consequences.

When the government takes over, many critics say that you may not get the care and breakthroughs you need to save your life.

Watch "20/20" TONIGHT at 10 pm E.T for more.

"The only way they can get costs down under a government-run system is to control the amount of money that is spent on health care," says Sally Pipes of the Pacific Research Institute, who was born in Canada, and is wary about government taking the reins of health care in the U.S.

"We are going to have denied care, lack of access to the latest technology, and long waiting lists, just like people do in Canada and Great Britain," she warns.

John Stossel is the only person remaining on any of the alphabet networks who can be trusted. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if this segment caused the Liberal Messiah to order his firing.

Time to re-post a link to a Mark Steyn, a Canadian/American.
It is long, and the part about Canadian and British health care start some paragraphs from the start.

It is a good, as well as fun, read.

Most doctors in Canada are now some other nationality than Canadian, mostly immigrants from India and Pakistan. Think about that for a moment. People go on waiting lists for surgery, months and years. A lot of people deliberately moved to cities near the border so they can come to the US for care.

You can't "prove" anything, but.. the elderly go in to hospitals, say for heart ailments, get treated, start recovering and... and then for strange reasons, they don't come out, they are administered something called a "hotshot" and no one can prove it or do a thing about it.

John Stossel is the only one left at ABC that has any common sense. I suggest everyone watch this report tonight, it will be scary to see our future if this crap passes

If someone is on the fence about Federal health care, just think about having IRS agent types approving your health care.

Thanks for the link. I’ll use it in discussions with Obamacare lovers who keep throwing “we are the only industrialized nation without national (free) heatlhcare” at me.

No but I have relatives and church friends there. Also know that for many rural communities there are no doctors, and a lot of times even if there are, they won’t take new patients, especially pregnant women.

Thanks for the heads up.

Just heard a promo: In Canada, animals get better health care than humans. Uh, oh.

Thanks for informing about this...I would never have known it was on. I had to use the channel guide to find ABC...reminded me that the “major networks” still exist.

Thanks for that added information. Any more info you can provide is welcome since my liberal friends and family members simply think the Canadian and British systems are hunky dorry.

"In a free and democratic society . . . the state has no business preventing you and me from spending our own money on health care,'' Day told the New York Times in 2006, adding that a dog in Canada could get a hip replaced faster than a human could."

Well just some first hand stuff: I have old friends who need serious operations, heart surgery mostly. They have to get an appt and then wait months if not a year or longer, to travel hundreds of miles to a center where they can be treated. They have to leave home, pay for the travel costs, motels, etc and then most of the time the spouse or family has to go home, leaving their loved one alone, and that's not a good idea if they are elderly, or a child, in my opinion.

I've been to the emergency room of a local hospital, and it was grungy, dirty. I waited 8 hours to be seen by an overworked, young hostile doctor. I gladly left without treatment.

They have the flesh eating bacteria running rampart up there, I know a person in a church whose husband died from it, and I know second hand of other people with it. You are better off staying home.

I have another friend in Ontario who needed back surgery— he had to fly to Alberta at his own expense, to get treatment, pretty far to go.
