Thanks for that added information. Any more info you can provide is welcome since my liberal friends and family members simply think the Canadian and British systems are hunky dorry.

Well just some first hand stuff: I have old friends who need serious operations, heart surgery mostly. They have to get an appt and then wait months if not a year or longer, to travel hundreds of miles to a center where they can be treated. They have to leave home, pay for the travel costs, motels, etc and then most of the time the spouse or family has to go home, leaving their loved one alone, and that's not a good idea if they are elderly, or a child, in my opinion.

I've been to the emergency room of a local hospital, and it was grungy, dirty. I waited 8 hours to be seen by an overworked, young hostile doctor. I gladly left without treatment.

They have the flesh eating bacteria running rampart up there, I know a person in a church whose husband died from it, and I know second hand of other people with it. You are better off staying home.

I have another friend in Ontario who needed back surgery— he had to fly to Alberta at his own expense, to get treatment, pretty far to go.
