I wonder how many Americans have hunted with Pump action shotguns, and this Police Chief says they are only for killing humans.
The first gun I ever owned was a JC Higgins Pump. I have never hunted man in my life.
NJ gun laws on Rifles and Shotguns are

Registration of rifles and shotguns? No.
Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No.
Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? Yes. ID card required.
Who made the JC Higgins pump for Sears? Anybody know?
I’m lazier than that. Pumping is work. If I wanted work, I’d get a job.
I have a Remington 1100 semi-auto. My wife has one too!
There's a first time for everything.
So was mine, and neither have I, but if I start, it won't be with my "serious social purposes shotgun", it'll be with my 7.62x51 Ugly Black Sniper Rifle, most likely anyway. Unlike pheasants, men often shoot back, and I want to be as far away as possible, in case the target has friends nearby.
That's not to say shotguns have no place in self defense, and in certain limited scenarios in offense as well. Else why would I have an Ugly Black Shotgun? Hmm?
