Retirees arrested at Sen. Feinstein's LA office

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A group of retirees who refused to leave Sen. Dianne Feinstein's West Los Angeles office until she talked to them about health care reform has been arrested.

Los Angeles police Sergeant Rich Brunson said Thursday that at least eight people were being taken into custody and would likely be booked for trespassing and released.

Cate Engel, a spokeswoman for the group California Alliance for Retired Americans, says the activists - all between 55 and 87 years old - wanted to talk to Feinstein about strengthening Medicare and using the program as a model for health reform.

The group arrived at Feinstein's office around noon and refused to leave her conference room until their arrest more than six hours later.

A call to the office seeking comment was not answered.

Free care? Wait until she gets her first monthly bill.

She’s 76 years old herself. Doesn’t she realize in this healthcare plan there’s an iceburg with her name on it?

Good lord, 50-59 isn’t old,guys.

Yeah. That was my other thought about this. I might even bump it higher than the 59 limit you used. *shrug* Maybe my family has been long-lived.

But if they just showed and refused to leave without seeing her when she may not have even been in the state ... well... that just makes them look like cranks or fools.

The article never said they demanded a face to face meeting. They took over a conference room for over 6 hours. You'd think a reasonable person would have just made a call to their own conference room and spoke to the group.

Of course, in all likelihood, this group knew there would be no call, no meeting, nothing...

This was a protest for whatever reason.

I personally would like to see several hundred thousand drive into D.C. and just stop their vehicles, bringing that entire city to a grinding halt.

I just turned 70 and I don’t consider myself old or a geezer. I don’t think younger folks realize that we feel young in our spirits even if our bodies age.

Webster says it's stu·pid·ly is an adverb. But it never uses it in an example or sentence.

Ha! I just think it was our president showing his STUPIDNESS. OR was his stupidity? Stupidometry?

I do know that it's a good thing George Bush didn't use that word or Big Media and SNL would have imploded with the humorous possiblities.

Point taken. I supopose a conference call could have been set up instead of a face-to-face but even that would have to have been arranged in advance. Especially if she was at work in D.C. It stirkes me as a grab for attention. I was unsympathetic when the left did these sorts of things and I'm unsymapthetic now. It doesn't strike me as good press - it just seems annoying.

Yes, “stupidly” is a word, an adverb formed by adding -ly to the adjective “stupid.” Similarly, smartly, prettily, and beautifully are similar adverbs. Usually, dictionaries provide definitions, examples, and usages for the adjective, then show the -ly word as an adverb at the end of the entry.

Like it or not, be it good or bad, the left is/was good at coming out for their causes, swaying public opinion, grid locking entire cities, ending wars...etc. Some of their tactics were extremely effective.

Thanks. Serveral posters have said that.

It seems to be one of those words no one uses unless they are a top-notch community organizer. To me, its like the word “GOLFING.” That is a word too, but only a non-golfer would use it. No real golfer says, ‘I’m going golfing!” YOu don’t go baseballing or footballing. Why would you go golfing?

To the others on the forum: yes, I know stupidly is a word now.

Um... The way this reads, they wanted the whole health system to run like Medicare.

No thanks. This must have happened in California.
