Yesterday, Barack Obama was God. Today, he's fallen from grace, the magic gone, his health-care reform dead. If you believed the first idiocy -- and half the mainstream media did -- you'll believe the second. Don't believe either.
Conventional wisdom always makes straight-line projections. They are always wrong. Yes, Obama's aura has diminished, in part because of overweening overexposure. But by year's end he will emerge with something he can call health-care reform. The Democrats in Congress will pass it because they must. Otherwise, they'll have slain their own savior in his first year in office.
But that bill will look nothing like the massive reform Obama originally intended. The beginning of the retreat was signaled by Obama's curious reference -- made five times -- to "health-insurance reform" during his July 22 news conference.
Reforming the health-care system is dead. Cause of death? Blunt trauma administered not by Republicans, not even by Blue Dog Democrats, but by the green eyeshades at the Congressional Budget Office.
Three blows:

why would his poll numbers drop from overexposure? If he’s so great, his poll numbers would increase the more we get to know him, not the opposition. Its falling because ppl are realizing his a fake and they were sold a false story by the media
Do you have no clue that all they have to do is pass it in this form and later change it back into it's far sweeping Marxist form in Committee?
Once this thing passes, they can, and WILL change it to suit the White House. It will be impossible to reverse. It will become every bit as lethal as Social Security to this country. And Congress can do nothing to stop those changes once this becomes law.
They will hand pick the committee members, like Graham, Franken, Snowe, Collins, Reid, etc,,,. The House will do the same. Just the passing of this bill will be the downfall of America.
Simple answer — print the horrifying synopsis from the ‘collinsreport’ blog and email it or hand it out to everyone you know.
It also seems to me that the problems (and suspension) of Cash for Clunkers indicates the government cannot figure out the cost of a program or how to run it. If they can’t manage a relatively simple auto buyout program, how can they run healthcare?
Never take your eye off the enemy!
How much more damage can a Republican Senator do than Snowe is doing to this country before the RNC makes an attempt to get rid of her. She is in the wrong party.
I heard last night that Germany had a similar “cash for clunkers” program that was wildly successful, but very expensive for German taxpayers, to the tune of $7 billion USD. If the Obama Administration can’t manage a simple program like this then why should anyone believe they can turn GM and Chrysler around?
Yep, a lot of what government does has a domino effect, but they seldom see beyond the first or second domino that will fall.
Only HALF??? Seems more like MOST to me!
I concur. They will. We have a rouge government on our hands.
The disasterous “cash for clunkers” will actually do harm to BO’s health care program.
It reinforces the citizens’ concern about the US gov’t running our wonderful healthcare system.
But by year’s end he will emerge with something he can call health-care reform. Now that Medicare and medicade have failed Obama want’s to have a bigger healthcare program he must think if your going to fail do it big time for Obama anything to brake America’s back is worth a try.
Charles is very smart but his predictions are rarely right. I remember when he said Letterman’s remarks would result in a win for Letterman. We all know how that turned out.
Bump
I think yo underestimate the effects of this thing on the economy and the society if/when something passes.SocSec and Medicare set us up for this but O'Bamacare is the coup de grace.
Rogue.....
Strictly politically speaking, call me "Judas"...
He's over there - The one on the left!...
