Abortion measure passes, then fails, in House
Thursday, July 30, 2009
An anti-abortion amendment to a sweeping health overhaul bill was voted down in a House committee late Thursday a dramatic reversal just hours after the measure initially was approved.
The amendment said health care legislation moving through Congress may not impose requirements for coverage of abortion, except in limited cases. It was approved in the Energy and Commerce Committee after conservative Democrats joined Republicans to support it.
But committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., invoked House rules that allowed him to bring up the amendment for a second vote, despite Republican objections.
This time, one conservative Democrat Rep. Bart Gordon of Tennessee changed his vote from "yes" to "no." And a second conservative Democrat who hadn't voted the first time Rep. Zack Space of Ohio voted "no."
It was enough to take down the amendment on a 30-29 vote.

Waxman needs to be waterboarded with a vat of tar up that schnozz of his.
Gordon — a Conservative Democrat — that doesn’t pass the smell test. Here are his ACU numbers for 2007: 20; 2008: 4; Lifetime: 28.76 for 24 years.
Gordon is not a conservative DemocRAT — he votes liberal and exactly what Ralph Hall has been saying is that these so-called conservative Blue Dogs is propoganda and they are not conservative.
Now for Space who is in his second term. ACU Rating 2007: 20; 2008: 12; Lifetime: 16
I bet if we check most of the Blue Dogs, we are going to find similar numbers. Do you know if anyone has a list of the Blue Dogs?
I adore Ralph Hall. I lost him as my congressman after redistricting....
Gordon is someone the GOP should target for takedown in 2010. He represents a fairly conservative district.
Thanks for that info! I think voters have been sold a bill of goods on these so called Blue Dogs being conservative. I would have never looked into it except for Ralph Hall, R-TX, former Dem who said you cannot trust the Blue Dogs because they don’t vote conservative. First two I looked up are flat liberals in voting on conservative issues.
Think Blue was a ruse to defeat Republicans by saying they are conservative Dems. Most conservative Dems left the party when Clinton was in office. We need to start checking the Blue Dog voting records and our candidates need to use that when they run against them that this is a public relations ploy by Emmanuel to elect liberal Democrats by calling them Blue Dogs.
I do too — the man has so much integrity.
These demon filled pustules are hell-bent (quite literally) on serving up fresh baby murders to their dead god!
They will have their reward.
This country is just asking for a plague of frogs or something.
Liberals are often tone-deaf about middle-America. If the GOP leverages this in campaigns, “Democrat candidate voted for taxpayer-funded abortions, etc.” then they could win bigger in the mid-terms than many have hoped.
too true...
