Not surprised by the tone and choice of words in this article.
Had an opportunity not long ago to read the Stars and Stripes for about 16 months.
Was very surprised at how much of the writing was so liberal.
If I recall correctly it is owned and operated by a house that is known to be fairly liberal, other FReepers may know better.

I was trying to recall. Is this the one
that’s owned by Gannett? Nothing I’ve
found confirms that.

The article sure could be written by
them ... terribly biased.

I believe you are thinking of ARMY TIMES. Part of the group that includes NAVY TIMES and similar publications. They are all civilian owned and published by Gannett, the same people who put out USA TODAY and similar editorially inclined papers.

I don't remember all the details now, but around 1970 when I was in the Army, the Stars and Stripes published an article with a picture in it. I think the picture may have been of a general and the picture was unflattering. To satisfy SOMEBODY, staffers literally cut out the picture from the paper and then permitted the paper to be distributed with such a mechanical edit to it.

Very quickly there was an unfavorable response to such nonsense. But it revealed quite clearly that "freedom of the press" is not involved in the publication of Stars and Stripes.
