SEOUL, South Korea — This is a developing story. Please refresh for the latest update.

North Korea seized a South Korean fishing boat early Thursday after it accidentally crossed the countries' sea border, a news report said.

Yonhap news agency quoted a Defense Ministry official as saying that the incident took place at about 6:30 a.m. in the East Sea and that four people were on board the South Korean boat.

He said that the boat's satellite navigation system appeared to have malfunctioned and that a North Korean patrol boat took the ship into custody. Yonhap said the official spoke on condition of anonymity.

Maybe the South Koreans can get them to give back the USS Pueblo while they're at it.

They’re probably more interested in the fish than the vessel or its crew.

For a while I thought this, Ride Captain Ride, was a song about the Pueblo but I've read on another site that it's probably about Sir Francis Drake.

after it accidentally crossed the countries' sea border
How can that be, since the North doesn't recognize the legitimate Korean gov't, and they can't really recognize any border?

This happens from time to time. It is not at red flag alert level yet. I think it will be over soon.

Heres the weird thing. They flapped their wings and yelled and screamed two months ago that the Korean Armistace was DONE and that they were not a party any more. And yet, by their troops actions, they don’t cross over the line at Panmunjom in the JSA or elsewhere on the “DMZ” (precisely a line decided by the Armistace “they left”) but more or less still respect all the rules of said Armistace. So North Korea which is it? Are you a party or not? Your behavior tends to make us believe you were not sincere in your statement of leaving the agreement, for if you had by now you would have had numerous incursions into the south. Sounds like it was all talk and threats. Maybe they think people have forgotten, so in a few months they can “leave” the Armistace AGAIN, to try to scare people to get carrots.

Seoul, July 30 (DPA) Seoul Thursday demanded the return of one of its fishing boats which was seized by North Korea after it strayed across the inter-Korean sea border, the South Korean unification ministry said.
The vessel, named 800, with four crew on board crossed several kilometres into North Korean waters when returning from a fishing trip in the East Sea off the Korean peninsula, a ministry spokesman said, quoting the military officials. It was seized around 6.30 a.m. (2130 GMT Wednesday).

“We demand North Korea return the South Korean fishermen and their boat as soon as possible,” Chun Hae Sung said, adding that the demand was passed on to Pyongyang via military channels.

I heard that the song was about the Pueblo way back in the 70s when it was released.

Interesting that this could be an urban myth
