HOW ABOUT A NATIONAL CONVERSATION ON RACE HOAXES?
July 29, 2009

You could not ask for a more perfect illustration of the thesis of my latest book, "Guilty: Liberal Victims and Their Assault on America," than the black president of the United States attacking a powerless white cop for arresting a black Harvard professor -- in a city with a black mayor and a state with a black governor -- as the professor vacations in Martha's Vineyard.

In modern America, the alleged "victim" is always really the aggressor, and the alleged "aggressor" is always the true victim.

President Barack Obama planted the question during a health care press conference, hoping he could satisfy the Chicago Sun-Times, which has been accusing him of not being black enough. He somehow imagined that the rest of the country might not notice the president of the United States gratuitously attacking a cop in a case of alleged "racial profiling."

Oops.

Suddenly, with the glare of the national spotlight being turned on a small local story, it became clear that there was no "racial profiling" involved -- other than by the black Harvard professor, who lorded his credentials and connections over a white working-class cop.

We wouldn't have known about this case at all if the professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr., hadn't blast e-mailed the universe that he was harassed by racist cops. Gates thought it would be a feather in his cap, not realizing there are huge areas of the country where people don't think it's heroic to browbeat cops checking on you after you break into your own house, such as 99 percent of the country outside of Cambridge.

Contrary to liberals' ardent desire, Sgt. James Crowley was not on tape saying, "I know it's his house, but let's stick it to this uppity negro." (Curiously, the tape of Gates' call demanding to talk to the chief of police to "report" Crowley has been withheld. Some watchdog group has got to demand that tape.)

But what if Crowley hadn't been a model policeman who taught diversity classes and once famously gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a black athlete?

What if the 911 caller had identified the suspected burglars as black, which it turns out she did not?

What if Crowley hadn't been fully supported by other cops at the scene, one Hispanic and one black? (Liberals will say cops stick together, but I say liberals stick together.)

What if, at some point in his life, Crowley had been accused -- falsely or not -- of racism?

His life would be ruined.

Desperate to blame the cop, despite the facts, some liberals have begun making up their own facts. Radio talker Opio Sokoni claimed Crowley told Gates to "shut up" and "I'm going to win, you're going to jail." Even Gates doesn't claim the cop said that.

On MSNBC's "Hardball," Chris Matthews said that Gates did not say, "I'll speak with your mama outside," as stated in the police report.

I don’t suppose anyone remembers a horrid little book called “The Arrogant History of White Ben.” Written by Clemence Dane in the 1930’s.
The name “Crowley” just jogged my memory. “White Ben” was about a scarecrow that came to life in England and became the focus of national adulation...and he was, of course, phobic against crows; but when he spoke against crows, people read it as a metaphor for any group they hated.
Ben became a populist/fascistic leader and inspired purges against anyone he classified as “crow,” having realized that his power lay in addressing the hatreds hidden in the hearts of his followers.
There’s almost nothing on the web about it, here’s a snip from a Google book selection:

“White Ben, the scarecrow, used by others for their own ends, but soon charismatic enough to spellbind them for his own...sets off to kill the crows [and] gradually, he is encouraged to see crows as metaphors for enemies at home and abroad. He discovers the power he has for haranguing the poor...Ben himself, we are told, is ‘a lunatic who had dived into the deeps of unreason to bring us hope,’ a linking of fascism with unreason which is widely repeated in the writings of the thirties and forties, as writers strove to cling to the idea that reason, rationality, the bedrock of humanism, could still be an article of faith. The climax of the novel comes as Ben addresses the mob...parliament is dissolved, Ben’s government takes over, and concentration cages are set up...” — (from “Political and social issues in British women’s fiction, 1928-1968” by Elizabeth Maslen

‘A lunatic who had dived into the deeps of unreason to bring us hope’ — like Barack 0bama, another enigma without scarcely more background than a scarecrow, and a tellingly reflexive phobia for police.

Got to re-read that one!

Per discussion in posts #18, 23, 31, & 37:

Ann cited Eugene Robinson in the first line of the 16th paragraph of her story (she tends to write short paragraphs).

Eugene Robinson is a columnist on the Washington Post and has gotten a lot of face time recently on CNN as one of their "experts" who comments on racial issues. I didn't realize that he has appeared on MSNBC because I don't watch the channel.

But then, who does?

Thanks!

I read the column quite quickly, and missed the name.

I did a search but for some reason it didn’t pick up the name

Sorry, Marysecratary, but now you see your answer.

I was sure she meant Eugene Thompson, brother of the owner of this website, Jim Thompson.

MarySecretary, you may not get Syncro's Thompson reference. About two weeks ago, commenters on Free Republic hammered Obama because his daughter was photographed wearing a T-shirt with a very prominent peace symbol on it. Some far left blog (I forget which) misidentified Jim Robinson, proprietor of this fine blog, as "Jim Thompson."

To compound the felony, the always risible Keith Olberman referred to the lefty blog entry and selected "Jim Thompson, owner of Free Republic" as runner-up to the "Worst Person in the World," a nightly feature on his show.

Of course the FReepers had a field day with the misidentification.

And vis-a-vis Ann Coulter and her remark trashing the birthers, just remember Ronald Reagan's famous observation that someone who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a valued friend and ally, not 20% traitor.

I myself don't take a position on the birther issue, but isn't it amazing how it has caught on in the media in the past few weeks?

I know about the Jim Thompson fiasco, norman. I think what I was referring to with Eugene Robinson was something said in Ann’s article. I know a Eugene Robinson so I was just checking to see if it was the same person.

I’m not one of the folks who trashed Ann regarding the birthers. Like you say, she’s no traitor in my book. She may once in a while have a different viewpoint but, hey, this is still America (for how long, I don’t know). M

Thanks, norman. I knew the football player, Eugene Robinson, so I wondered if it could be him. I’ve never heard of the other Robinson either since I rarely watch CNN.

Ann is a poopy head, a pinko lefty marxist because she disagrees with me on one issue. She is a stinky face. Go Stuff it, Ann. PS did I mention she is a poopy head.
Did I pretty much nail it? I guess I am a Marxist, Fair weather patriot

Well accusations of racism are incitement to violence, Maxine Waters is evidence for that. That is all the left has in its arsenal, the race card, everthing else has failed.

Throwing a long time allie overboard on the basis of a minor disagreement is moronic.

Hugh Christopher Newsom, Jr., 23, and Channon Gail Christian, 21,

One of the most horrific race crimes in years. Talk about a "hate crime" but we are supposed to believe that "race had nothing to do with it" as is almost ALWAYS the case with the frequent but downplayed black on white crime. Of course there are many examples that never get more than a blip of attention and even then it is always reported as a "random" crime or the victim was "at the wrong place at the wrong time" and race is never mentioned and certainly never a factor

Like this example from today.

Transient is charged with murder in Lily Burk's death

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-lily-burk29-2009jul29,0,909475.story

What ever happened to this recent story? If this had been a black family attacked by whites it would still be front page news and the Federal government would be involved.

Time for us to wake up.

Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family

''This is our world'' and ''This is a black world'' as they confronted Marshall and his family.

http://www.ohio.com/news/50172282.html

Where is Obamnation's and "black scholar" (why do they keep saying that?) Gate's concern about "equality" and "justice for all" here? Yet we are always supposed to cry a river and hang our head in shame at the treatment of the poor black man. BS!

Hate Crime Hoaxes

Claremont Hate Crime Called Hoax
LA Times (FR thread) | March 17. 2004 | Joy Buchanan, Kristina Sauerwein and Stuart Silverstein

A week after a reported campus hate crime drew national attention, sparked protests and shut down the prestigious Claremont Colleges, police on Wednesday called the incident a hoax staged by a professor who slashed tires, shattered windows and spray-painted racist graffiti on her own car.

Claremont McKenna College psychology professor Kerri Dunn, who had told police that her car was vandalized as she spoke at a March 9 forum on racism, was identified by two eyewitnesses as the person who damaged the auto, authorities said Wednesday.

Professor Kerri Dunn vandalized her own car and then led "Stop The Hate" rallies on campus.

I still contend the only reason Obama called the press conference was to get Sgt. Crowley fired. David Axelrod called Lynn Sweet and suggested she ask about this incident. From all accounts the press conference was a stinker. I don't think he was interested in talking about health care at all. Professor Gates probably called his old friend and said he wanted this cop fired. Obama knew he couldn't do it directly, so he used the press conference as an excuse to accuse the Cambridge police of acting stupidly.

Be sure to watch the video of Ann on Redeye last week!

Let me know if you'd like to be added to the Ann Coulter ping list.
