I know what you mean re: mountains. I see the Cascades and Olympics .....
I agree that we don’t want that many people moving here. But in spite of our wants people still come.
Articles like the ones I cited in Money and Outside don’t help.
But since people are going to come anyway might as well make it conservative people.
I spent my time as a member of 2Bn/10th SFG(A) on Ft Carson. Compared to many other military towns in the US, Colorado Springs is liberal.
On post, training was stifled by civilian eco-freaks to the point that we couldn't even conduct airborne operations in the training area when it started raining.
Range regulations were so restrictive that our unit often went to Camp Guernsey in Wyoming to conduct realistic training.
Off post I ran in to some of the most anti-military people (especially on B Street) I could imagine. Not only was it difficult for military personnel to rent a decent home, but most landlords absolutely despised pets.
When I retired in '99, I left Colorado as fast as I could.
Side note to "cookcounty"- the only bar I spent time in was at the Doubletree Hotel. I wasn't impressed.
You didn't say that. You said it was as liberal as Boulder.
Also, a sample does not make a population. You obviously had a bad time here and feel like calling it something it is not. Do we have liberals here? Sure. But this is probably the most conservative city of its size in the nation.
After being here 14 years, I have yet to meet a single anti-military person. YMMV.
