Snips
It's not real money as measured by the Washington adage of "$1 billion here and $1 billion there," but President Barack Obama's Cabinet has just delivered on his demand for $100 million in budget savings.
Obama's promise to deliver the savings, which was greeted with considerable ridicule since it amounted to a pledge to cut about $1 for every $10,000 of the $1 trillion budget for agency budgets...the equivalent of cutting a foot-long submarine sandwich from the budget of a construction worker making $60,000 a year.
Agriculture Department canceled a meeting in Australia
Commerce Department scrapped $131,000 worth of unnecessary office renovations
FEMA turning over 120,000 temporary housing units called "Katrina cottages" to the General Services Administration
greater efforts to go "paperless" whenever possible, saving on copier costs
Treasury will shred and recycle classified materials rather than burn them
Justice making travel arrangements online
Air Force will install 2,800 compact fluorescent light bulbs
"These savings reflect the president's belief that even small savings can add up,"

Change you can believe in.
So now he’s only showing a net $1,999,900,000,000.00 on the deficit side of the ledger.
White house: A billion here a billion there in spending, is not alot of money. A million here and a million there in spending cuts is alot of money
Reminds me of snowy days when "non-essential government workers" are told to stay home. If they are non-essential, then why are they on the payroll?
If the renovations were unnecessary, then why were they planned and budgeted at all?
This is why we don't need or want government anywhere near our health care and insurance.
This will get Obama a Nobel prize for sure.
100 million in cuts vs 780 billion wasted with this idiotic stumulus which never worked..
I thought it said $100 million in cats!
>>> Treasury will shred and recycle classified materials rather than burn them <<<<<
I believe it’s been proven that recycling costs more than burning. So this is not a money saver.
Wow, $100 million! Amazing - that will settle the $2 TRILLION deficit! It’s 0.005% of the total deficit... We’re on our way to fiscal fitness - HOPE AND CHANGE!
Great. They will pay five times as much for the bulbs. Since fluorescent bulbs are high speed strobes many employees, mostly female, will get migranes and miss work. Then the Air Force will have to pay to have the mercury laden bulbs disposed of properly as hazzardous waste, costing as much as the original purchase. Typival government "savings".
But don't worry. Congress has decreed that soon we will all participate in this "savings" plan.
Asspress shill alert.
How about cutting down on the $250,000 dinner dates?
This is pure Kindegarten Juvenile Toe Exercises! It shows Obama has No Perception of Executive Management! W.C. Fields would be embaressed at the Banality of this Brainless Idiot! W.C. Fields would rfuse to sink to the Intellectual Level of this moron:-(
Wow! ONE HUNDRED MILLION dollars!!!!!! Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!
That’s about like me clipping my pinky nail and then trying to convince everyone of my tremendous weight loss.
Try again, POSeur.
