A transient accused in the slaying of 17-year-old Lily Burk was charged today with capital murder, kidnapping and two counts of robbery.

[Updated at 2:51 p.m.: Charles Samuel, 50, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court today with his attorney. His arraignment was postponed for three weeks.]

The Los Angeles County Dist. Atty.'s Office said it will determine at a later point whether to seek the death penalty.

Police detectives arrested 50-year-old Charlie Samuel in connection with Burk's death. They allege that he kidnapped her near the Southwestern University College of Law on Friday afternoon and killed her after unsuccessfully trying to withdraw money using her credit card.

Police said today that fingerprints recovered from inside the Volvo match Samuel's.

Samuel was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Friday on suspicion of possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia on 3rd Street in downtown Los Angeles -- at least 12 hours before a worker discovered Burk's body at 5th and South Alameda streets.

This jackass was a career criminal and he was released again and again and again. Typical for Los Angeles, not a shock. We release all the scumbags here. Such a shame, such a beautiful girl. From what media reports say, he slit her throat. Hope the bastard burns in hell for what he did

In a just world, they would execute him at dawn.

In a sane world, he would have already been executed long before he had the opportunity to waylay Lily.

If he were white and she were black, would this be a "hate" crime? Is it racist?--Nah! Guess not.

It was however, a hate crime--every murder is. How did he hate her? Because she was young, white, beautiful, obviously well off? Or was it an extension of self hate? Or was it just plain old bred in the bone meanness?

Whatever it was, I hope he gets the death penalty. In olden days, he would be tried by Friday and executed by Monday. One of the pieces of foolishness in today's culture is that a sin against God is not a sin; even a sin against a fellow human is not judged much of a sin. The "sin" would be a harsh judgement against this serial perp. One has only to view him to know he is sorry---that he was arrested.

If they actually prove it's him that did it, and he's not just some loser rounded up by the form-pushers.... A tall, tall tree, and a short piece of rope fixes this problem.

The Death penalty, in California, nah won’t happen. He will probably be sent to the looney bin and be declared “Incompetent to stand trial.” This is the same state that still has Scott Peterson sitting on death row. Just execute his ass already. This was a vicious crime. He kidnapped her after she left SouthWestern Law School where her mother is a teacher, to do an errand for her, she never came home, just kept on calling home asking for money. He took her to the ATM to withdrawal cash but her credit card didn’t allow ATM withdrawals so he took her to some God forsaken area in Downtown LA and slit her throat.

This is so pathetic. . .and beyond sickening that this man, iseven on the street to begin with; and that he; like 'so many' imaginge they can 'steal a life'. STEAL A LIFE and a lifetime!

The key to his cell should be thrown away. . .and I hope he meets Justice; sooner rather than later; wherever that cell may be.

Some people think no more of extinguishing a human life than they would of squashing a bug.

My heart breaks for her family. I know her mother must have wished over and over again that she hadn’t sent her on that errand, even though it is one that she had probably done many times and returned safely.

Being locked up for life is way too lenient for what he has done. Yet, people who have done as much and more have gotten by with far less punishment. Yes, it is sickening.

I believe he was confinded and for some reason they let him out for that day. He has very long police record.

They let this sub-human out for a day and this is what he did with that one day?

Shows what we get for trusting the liberal state. Insanity! There is blood on someone’s hands.

I blame the psychologists who think they can rehabilitate evil.

This is obviously Racial Profiling.

Someone will have to ask Obama about this at his next Pep Rally, err, Press Conference.

In modern society the only real sin is defense against violent attack.

I wonder if Barak will think that the California penal system "acted stupidly" by letting this man go...????

Nah.... it's just the man tempting him with young white girls and credit cards... jeez, what was I thinking.
