>Melting into Washington’s powerful and caretaking arms will only lead to suck away the incentive to work hard and chart our own course

There were lots of words
(like these) you normally don't
hear in this context.

Surrending our constitutionally guaranteed auto-sufficiency to Washington's omnipotent and benevolent grasp will only lead to the dissolution of our drive to be industrious and chart our own course.

She captured the sentiment. I agree with her. I'm trying to keep an open mind, and as I've previously confessed to another FReeper, I feel myself getting sucked into her orbit. So, I ascribe a high priority to obectivity. So, let me ask you, in sincerity - how would you phrase that thought?

I'm kind of strange, but
I probably would have used
a TV reference:

--------------------------------------
"You know in season five of "Smallville," the supervillain Lionel tells his son, the supervillain Lex, that when you make a deal with the devil, the devil always comes around to collect. We must remember this principle when we're dealing with the temptations of politics, especially the temptations of bigger and bigger government."
--------------------------------------

Republicans chiefs
need to keep this in mind, too,
with populism.

I’ve never watched Smallville, so that reference would be lost on me. And as someone who hopes to see her on the national stage, I hope she is more laconic than to say ‘you know’ ‘in season five’..... That the devil comes around to collect is an adage that exists in every language because it is a truth.

I would also say that when she says things like ‘melting into the arms of Washington’, for me, she evokes the covers of those trashy romances in gas stations where some helpless, dishevelled woman is held against the massive chest of the hero, who has it all together. It is invariably so. He is auto-sufficient, she is a wuss who needs to be rescued. In her phrasology, the absurdity strikes me instantly. Words are supposed to paint pictures. To me, her words painted the very essence of absurdity. And she was not verbose. That kind of verbal economy appeals to me. I suspect the same goes for others as well. But thank you for showing me a different perspective.

I do like reading her words. You can set aside her much-criticized appearance and voice that seem to bowl the liberals over in howls and actually evaluate the words on the page. I like her words. She is a wonder; and she is far from “over”. God bless her.

..Denali – the Great One –...

Wasn't "Denali" the Secret Service codename for Sarah last November?

Hmmm....

Thanks for posting Sarah’s speech. It was the first time I had a chance to read it.

If Governor Palin had made such a reference, a) I would not have been able to identify with it, since I don’t watch TV of that sort, and b) my estimation of her would have been lowered.

I think the words she used were well chosen and made her points simply and eloquently.
