I had lunch with a fairly mainstream, upscale jewish attorney the other day. Was at a predominently jewish country club which I have been to many times before with my attorney friend. We have never talked politics before, but he brought up the subject of Obama and asked for my thoughts. I told him and asked why jews could support Obama when is is going to sell out Israel.

What he then told me realy stuck with me. He told me most of the jews he knows vote on the basis of social issues and support for Israel. Most jews he knows view conservatives as anti abortion religious zealots and therefore, as long as the Dems protect Israel, their vote will be for the Dems. Then he told me he and his friends think Obama deceived them on Israel and they are very worried. The tax increases are also a big worry to these wealthy country club jews.

Bottom line is Israel and taxes will trump social issues when a lot of jewish voters go to the polls next presidential election.

Maybe you should remind your friend that those protestant religious "zealots" are probably Israel's largest remaining group of strong supporters in the world at the moment.

Hope you’re right. It amazes me that they didn’t see the obvious. Just his appointments of key positions should be a hint. Many are very anti Israel. It’s obvious that he is courting the Arab block while alienating Israel. It’s almost as if he wants to cut ties with any nation having long ties to the U.S. and who believe in Democracy and the rule of law. Just as he seems to be attacking our own entrenched institutions he’s doing the same with our allies. It’s almost as if he wants to destroy all that we stood for before his election so that he owns it all and controls it all.

I worked most of my work life for a jewish family and had many jewish friends and most were secular and really didn’t identify that much with Israel directly but they were big contributors to Israel and realize the ramifications of our appeasement of countries preaching hatred and intolerance.

The Dems protect Israel? How can that be when they want to cut military funding and/or legitimize Hamaas?
