Those archives of the original birth certificates are used for such things as security clearances, child adoption and to prove blood lineage to the Department of Hawaiian Homeland Lands:

I read the other day that the short form is now OK to prove lineage. Yes the long form used to be what you needed

Proving lineage is a very touchy issue because proven Native Hawaiians get all kinds of preferences and bennies. Same as claiming you are an Indian who belongs to a casino tribe. You will be put through the mill to prove your lineage because they will only share the $$$ with real Indians. No Warren Churchills

Do you have any idea what percent Hawaiian you have to be get on the gravy train?
Years ago I met a blond woman who told me since she was 1/16th Indian she got some benefits in Alaska where she lived

I knew someone who qualified for the Hawaiian Home Lands. IIRC she was 50% Hawaiian. My understanding is that her children did not qualify. After waiting many years she became ill before being able to take advantage of the program. If she had been able to participate I believe this would only have given her the right to lease land during her lifetime.
