She was set to star this week in her high school's production of David Mamet's "The Boston Marriage."
And she planned to volunteer helping the homeless this summer. Seventeen-year-old Lily Burk had a knack for writing and being funny, and while classmates at Oakwood School in North Hollywood carried backpacks, she lugged two canvas bags overstuffed with books, papers and binders.
This girl was "cute and getting cuter," her mother said. Lily was going places.

Police continue search for killer of 17-year-old Lily Burk as family and friends mourn
Instead, she left her Los Feliz home Friday afternoon on an errand and never returned. Early Saturday her black Volvo was found parked in a lot surrounded by warehouses and lofts near downtown Los Angeles. Lily's body was found on the front passenger seat, and police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Unless its a Latino, you will not get nothing. This mayor is interested in his photo ops.
Lily Burk is not a Hispanic name...
Move along...nothing to see here...
That’s a very seedy and isolated area of downtown. She probably drove into it not knowing where she was going.
My boss’s daughter attends the same school she did - called Oakwood. I don’t know anything about it except that he chose it for his daughter because he wanted her to attend a “liberal” school (whatever he meant by that).
And his permanent wide grin! How local TV anchor Liu Parker has fallen in love with this idiot gives new meaning to the phrase love is blind.
Nobody goes downtown unless they are carrying some sort of weapon.
Lily... made separate calls to each of her parents, asking them how to get cash using her credit card at an ATM, police said.Lily seemed in a rush, her father said, but not frightened. She said she needed money to buy shoes. Her parents said they told her to come home...
Their information showed repeated attempts to withdraw money from an ATM using the credit card, they said. Drooz said she told police that their daughter's cellphone calls were moving farther east.
She didn't sound frightened (so presumably wasn't being forced to withdraw money) but was trying to get money out of an ATM in a hurry, for some reason, and kept trying at various ATMs.
The guy is a idiot. He has let the entire city fall apart while raising power and water taxes. The guy loves his photo ops. He promised that he was going to fill all the potholes in the city and he never kept his promise. The only reason he became mayor he won downtown, the Westside and the San Pedro area.
There are ok parts of downtown, like around Bunker Hill. But if you go three or four blocks West, East or South, you’re in illegal alien land or skid row.
Villiagorosa was a disaster as CA’s speaker as was his predecessors Afro-American Herb Wesson and fellow Hispanic Fabio Nunez, and now we have an Afro-American Karen Bass. These folks have never held a real job like the guy in the WH. They are all left-wing community activists and agitators who wield enormous power and have no clue on how to run a kiosk much less a major city. Nearly all the major cities in the US are now major crime centers and in a state of disrepair controlled by union thugs and criminal street gangs.
I would not be where the 101 and the 110 freeways meet and the MacArthur Park area.
Ugh, this is awful. This story is confusing at the moment, though. DId a friend of hers press her for money? Was she carjacked? I really think someone had to be in the car with her and forcing her to get money out. Otherwise she would have just paid for the shoes with her credit card.
It doesn’t make much sense for her to go shoe shopping downtown unless she wanted to go to Macy’s or something, but i’d still think she’d ending up in weho or melrose or something, not downtown.
I totally agree with you.
I have to include in the areas not be hanging around: Los Feliz,Atwater Village,El Sereno and Silverlake
Of COURSE she was. She would never be downtown in that area suddenly wanting to buy shoes.
She probably had a weapon on her and was told to ask the parents how to get cash out, but that if she acted nervous, she'd be killed.
Maybe it's best for all of us to come up with a life or death code word that can be slipped into such conversations with family.
I assume that you are talking about Mayor Villa whatever.
His latest claim is that “Los Angeles is a safe as it has been since 1990” (or roughly this type of claim - Curtis Sliwa plays it all the time).
Guess the murdered girl doesn’t think so.
Somebody should take the mayor and make him face the girl’s body and say to her, “I’m sorry that I’m a stupid ass and helped to get you killed.”
RIP.
You are correct. The city is not safe. I have thought of moving to somewhere a little rural. In LA, gangs roam the streets and the “tagging” has gotten out of hand. I carry a blackjack or a bamboo stick when I am doing my running.
