A few years ago the Washington Independent School District made up a bunch of bus signs that said, “DC Schools is great! Go to class. It a blast.”

What's wrong with that? It is incorrect to say "DC Schools be great!"

For that matter, education in general in America.

Things like that happen all the time. I remember a bridge in California that was built backwards. There were dozens of opportunities to recognize the error before the concrete was poured but it happened anyway. It was a rural bridge over a freeway and wouldn’t have been a problem except it only had one sidewalk and it ended up on the wrong side. We realigned the road on each side of the bridge to match the deck and now people drive across it with no idea of the headaches it caused.

This is a Wisconsin sign as well. Maybe it is spelled correctly and they just prohiibit traffic on Thursdays...

My story about the bridge stems from my years working for the California Division of Highways, or as it’s now called, “Caltrans”. Part of that time was spent designing signs such as that. We designed them, drew them up and a contractor actually fabricated them... most of the time. Sometimes, if there was a rush job, our people would put together the sign. Evidently we just had better educated people. When I see something like the sign in the original post, I just shrug and blame the government schools.
