H.R. 1503 IS A SHAMEFUL PLOY TO STIR UP FEAR AND DISSENSION -- (House of Representatives - July 22, 2009)<p><center><pre>[Page: H8497]

Rep. William Pascrell [D-NJ8]:    Mr. Speaker, I rise in strong opposition to H.R. 1503, the so-called "Birther Bill." You ought to read it.

H.R. 1503 is predicated on the vicious and false rumor that circulates among fringe elements of our society that Barack Obama is not a citizen of the United States and his Presidency is, therefore, illegitimate.

I bring you a copy--and I hold it up--of his birth certificate which has been authenticated in the State of Hawaii by the Department of Health, and I also hold up an announcement in the newspaper on August 14.

Yet, despite being proved categorically untrue time and time again, this rumor stays alive because of tacit acknowledgment embodied in this legislation from legislators in this room. Anything to bring the messenger down.

These rumors hurt America. They hurt the strength of our country. The fact that some Members of the minority would embrace this hateful rhetoric stuns me.

These allegations have no grounding in fact, and this bill is nothing more than a shameful ploy to stir fear and dissension in the minds of the American people.

Short form or long form? The short form is meaningless. As I understand it, almost anyone can get a short-form, or could in that day and age. I've been told that back then, I could've gotten my dog a short-form Hawaii birth certificate. Heck, to this day I could get her credit cards.

Confront your fears, Sir. If your boy is legitimate, have him prove it and be done. Otherwise, uphold your Constitutional pledge/duties and enforce the law of the land. If he’s not eligible, get him out.

Wow, this bill does not force Obama to show his BC. It just requires all future candidates to prove they are eligible for the office they seek. I think they jumped the shark on this one.

since Obama traveled overseas as a Senator, are we to assume State issues a passport on the basis of the short form certificate? If so, State has behaved badly by issuing such and should be called out for it.

Obama is a democrat. He had his passport files sanitized before the election by the the guy who is now his security adviser (Brennan). When an federal investigation was begun to look into the three accesses to Obama’s files at State, the government witness was murdered in front of a church in DC, so the investigation is now closed and in Holder’s careful hands. Before Obama became a Seantor, in 1981, he traveled to Pakistan and Indonesia, even overstaying the usual time allowed for an AMerican visiting Pakistan in 1981. The question is, on what passport naming what as his national origin/citizenship did he travel to these foreign countries?

For me, the passport question is the easiest way to determine his nationality...which passport did he use when he traveled to Pakistan in 1981...British, Indonesian, or USA??????
