I agree. It's going to take much more than the democrats sucking to get the votes needed to win elections. What's needed is true limited government conservative/libertarian IDEAS to contrast with the dems. If someone is found that can articulate the message, and talk through the MSM smokescreen, the dems will get destroyed at the ballot box, with the demographic concerns taking care of themselves.
Right now I don't see the republican party even trying to do this. I pay close attention to politics, and I couldn't really tell you what the Republican plan is to answer and counter the runaway socialism we are facing. It's going to take a lot more than a strategy of "we aren't them"...

The only solution if you want conservative government is secession of conservative parts of the country from liberal parts.
Do Latinos vote conservative in Mexico or Latin America? They don’t there and probably won’t here.

Just having to produce a tax return showing some taxes paid would be a good start. No "skin in the game", no vote.

Since Reagan made his firing of the air traffic controllers the first strike of his administration, I rather suspect that unease over the rise of the unions, particularly the public employee unions through the 70’s, played a large role in his victory. I suspect that the Republicans will gain a lot of traction in the “broad middle” by exposing how the Democratic Party has served as the hand maiden of the labor unions, and how the unions are the tape worm in the gut of government just as the UAW was in the gut of GM. “Having to put off your retirement because of the recession, drop off of 401 K ? Sucker, you should have gone with SEIU, their pensions are guaranteed by tax dollars, and they ain’t putting off nothin’.” When it is noted that over 25% of the ‘06 Congressional vote was union/ union household, and a substantial $225 m of Obama’s windfall fundraising was from unions, the Republicans counter-attack has to be a lot more than defeating card check. The stimulus money is increasingly exposed as public employee employment insurance; every county and state politician in the northeast seems to believe government workers rather than the taxpayers are their constituencies. I’m hearing more commercials put out by unions about how wonderful they are, how public-spirited, blah-blah, just as the GE ads running during Glen Beck’s radio show (probably the local outlet’s time)are all about how “veteran friendly” GE is , etc. They’re trying to innoculate themselves, but as incomes go down and taxes rise, they’re just whistling past the graveyard of public outrage.
Actually, the Latinos we are getting illegally from Mexcio are the worst of the bunch and the least likely to vote conservative or republican.
Actually they do. Look at Honduras right now. The conservative government kicked out Zelaya, the commie. Rejected Chavez.
People like Chavez thrive and multiple in countries with poor people. Poverty breeds populism. Capitalism breeds prosperity and all can share, even Latinos. Poverty and the dictators it breeds are a vicious cycle but it can be broken.
And, lastly, Mexico has a large conservative base. They have been in power for many years on and off. But Mexico has a problem with graft. The whole society is beset with bribery. They have to deal with it.
I don’t think these groups have been given a real choice lately - I mean, the GOP has become “Democrat Lite”. The Republicans haven’t given me anything to be excited enough to climb back on board with them - so I can understand why other groups aren’t clamoring to be with them.
They don’t stand for anything anymore.
I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way.”

The Republican party does risk extinction if it should be so foolish as to follow the pander to minorities strategy recommended by John Zogby and a host of others.
Following the Bush/Rove pander to Hispanics strategy was one of, if not the biggest factor in the party’s spectacular fall from power between 2004 and 2008.
