Swine flu could kill hundreds of thousands in U.S. if vaccine fails, CDC says
The Los Angeles Times ^ | July 25, 2009 | Thomas H. Maugh II

Hundreds of thousands of Americans could die over the next two years if the vaccine and other control measures for the new H1N1 influenza are not effective, and, at the pandemic's peak, as much as 40% of the workforce could be affected, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That is admittedly a worst-case scenario that the federal agency says it doesn't expect to occur.

But the broad range of potential deaths highlights the unpredictability of flu viruses in general and this swine flu virus in particular because it hasn't behaved the way researchers have expected.

The number of potential deaths is much higher than that usually seen in seasonal flu, which kills an estimated 36,000 Americans a year, and is even higher than the nation's most recent pandemic.

A 2003 CDC study of deaths in the preceding decade showed yearly totals ranging from 17,000 to 52,000. The 1957 pandemic of Asian flu killed 70,000.

The vaccine the CDC is counting on is not expected to be available before the end of September, too late to immunize children before the start of school, where the proximity of children is expected to speed up transmission of the virus.

Well, should we ask M.O. which people are in the “right demographic” to have priority for receiving the vaccine?

***Influenza is a virus, whereas antibiotics treat infections from germs. Or am I mistaken? Any medical personnel here? ***

I didn’t say antibiotics for influenza. I said antibiotics for pneumonia, an oppertunistic bacterial infection that gets a foothold on the flu weakened lungs.

It (Pneumonia) nailed me after I had a commnon cold for a week.

So naturally they approve the manufacture of the 2009 vaccine that does not include Swine Flu.

CDC stops swine flu death count at 300

Fri Jul 24, 2009 11:06am EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 300 people have died from the new pandemic swine flu virus, U.S. health officials said on Friday, but they said the virus was so widespread they were ceasing the official count.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 43,771 cases of H1N1 influenza had been officially confirmed, with 302 deaths.

The pandemic spread globally in less than two months and has infected people in 160 countries, killing 800 people, the World Health Organization said. The WHO numbers do not include the latest CDC count.

Health experts say millions have likely been infected worldwide, but doctors can only test a fraction of suspected cases. Flu tests are expensive and unreliable and confirming H1N1 swine flu is difficult.

Health officials are now working with companies to test and make a vaccine against H1N1 to be delivered alongside seasonal influenza vaccines.

Alot of researchers now think that many of the young, previously healthy victims from 1918 had contracted secondary staph infections from the hospital wards, another thing that could have been taken care of, in many cases, with antibiotics.

This “prediction” wouldn’t be planted to give anyone an incentive to support Obama’s healthcare reform would it? I mean what better than to claim the sky is falling and that only I can provide a secure shelter?

You are correct. Secondary bacterial infections are possible but you have to get sick from the flu first, so the premise is still flawed.

Btw, I am volunteering here in Seattle to be a test subject for the new flu vaccine.

Unfortunately that is not relevant to this flu. Additionally we have MRSA now which is not easily treated with antibiotics.
Even good old Staph Aureus can be a difficult bug, and anything systemic is high risk.
Treating sepsis is just not as simple as using IV bug juice.

Billionaire Club Seeks Population Control.

Obviously, just a coincidence.
Check back in several months when the reactions and horror stories are coming in.
The MS, Guillain-Barré syndrome and infertility tracking on these people should prove interesting to researchers and MDs.

Tetanus Vaccines, Spontaneous Abortions, and Population Control. How the UN"s World Health Organization spiked vaccines with human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) for a population control experiment. The same crazy Malthusian groups and secular humanists connected with the CDC. Very disturbing but they are not just kidding around when they say they want to depopulate the planet. When Obama's science czar says they want population control even if that means putting sterilization drugs in the water supply, he's not just making a joke.

People should learn how these damage the central nervous system and endocrine systems before they get this experiment into the operational phase of the coming chastisement.

This is the the death culture red’s dream come true. With dead flu people, plus Obama knocking them off before birth as after age 65, Utopia is just beyond the watermelon.

I think the original poster wanted to know why antibiotics would be used on people with the flu. One poster mentioned pneumonia and I mentioned the article I read about secondary staph infections during the 1918 epidemic. I contracted a staph infection in a hospital in my teens and I know how hard it can be to fight. I hope I didn’t come across as trying to imply that treating something is as easy as giving someone a shot.

Thanks, I just don’t want people to think that antibiotics
will be the cure-all for this (or any) flu.
