Dear xxxxxx,
Some of you will remember that the permanent cuts proposed by Governor Kaine and supported by the House to the Standards of Quality (SOQ) had a 2009-2010 price tag of $340 million, and state funding for 13,000 support positions was eliminated. We said then that the cost of the cuts would grow as enrollment increased. We'll they did.
According to the Virginia Department of Education the permanent cuts, the imposition of the support cap ratio, will cut $754,301,683 from educating funding in the next biennial budget if adopted. I estimate that this will eliminate funding for 14,414 support positions.
Remember, Virginia is cutting state support when our state support per pupil ranks 37th in the nation.
This is all the more reason to attend the "Caps Hurt Kids" rally at the Bell Tower at the Virginia Capitol at 1 p.m. on August 19th.
Thank you, Robley Jones VEA GR
Sounds like a good place for a VA Tea Party Counterprotest.
Virginians have something very special to protect that makes the state one of the best places in the Union for business and employment...our ‘right to work’ status. When blue states have news about unions its about the service employee unions...here it is about our relatively weak “teachers union’. If we can send the the Democrats packing in November we could make this state a modern Galt’s Gulch to Obama’s taker’s coalition.
NEA education=black hole
