Specialist officers raided the girl's home in Croydon

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested by armed Met police after a sub-machinegun was found in her wardrobe.

The weapon was discovered when a specialist anti-gang crime squad of 15 officers with hydraulic battering rams and combat shields raided the girl's home in Croydon.

She was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm, an offence which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for adults and three for juveniles.

The raid, which police say is likely to be followed by further arrests, will prompt renewed fears that older criminals are involving children in gun and gang crime and using them to look after weapons.

Police declined to comment on the background to the arrest but said the raid was part of an operation by the Aries squad in Croydon which targets criminal gangs.

A Met spokesman said: “A 13-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and taken to a south London police station. The weapon was a sub-machinegun. She has been bailed and further arrests are anticipated.”

Sergeant Darin Birmingham, who led the raid, added: “We received information that the young man living here, who is a known gang member, had access to firearms.”

In the raid yesterday afternoon, armed officers sealed off the Monks Hill Estate in Shirley and people were told to stay in their houses. A hydraulic battering ram was used to force the door of the flat where the girl was in Tedder Road.

'If you mess around with weapons we will be at your front door and you will come face to face with an armed response unit. 'We will not tolerate the use of weapons in this borough.'

Well, if they are using an "armed response unit," doesn't that mean they are "tolerating the use of weapons in this borough?"

Ah, but the Ruling Class doesn’t need to follow the same laws as the lowly Serfs.....

If you can get any ammo, you can make your own piece

Or for the real deal
TM 31-210 Army manual for improvised weapons.

The Libery Pistol was made to use in the same way - single shot, smooth bore.

"IIRC, they’re some of the most sought after and valuable M1911s ever made."

You are correct. I believe Singer sold their contract to Remington Rand before a thousand were made (possibly as few as 500). They are sought after, and also very frequently counterfeited. Swindling 1911-A1 collectors has become a booming business over the last few years.

It looks like it’d jam after 2 shots-—like that thug gun the Tek-9

My Tek-9 has never, ever jammed.

Maybe because it's never, ever been shot...

It was probably bought at a gun show in Scotland.

I thought 'nicked' was slang for stolen?

Yes. but also means arrested. As in the Old Style Brit Police Caution: "You're nicked, Sunshine!"

I was a tank commander on an M48A3 tank in Vietnam. OEM equiptment on that vehicle was an issue of 2 M3 or M3A1 SMG’s per tank. You could drop that thing in mud, scoop the mud out of the chamber with your little finger, and the thing would shoot at 350-450 rpm with gobs of mud flying out of the ejection port. The tolerances were extremely loose, the rate of fire quite low. That fact coupled with it’s weight, made it extremely easy to keep long bursts on target within it’s effective range limitations, and was very reliable as long as the magazines were in good shape.

It was a VERY simple weapon. The gun in the picture appears to have been modified or repaired. Note the rivet at the front of the trigger guard. the trigger guard was designed to be pried off with the stock so as to remove the ejector housing. It is probably an M3A1. It appears to be lying flat on it’s right side. The M3A1 had a cocking lever that prevented that. There is no oiler on the ejector housing, as in the M3. The barrel nut appears to have been modified or badly worn.

If I am not mistaken, when Delta Force were first formed they chose the old M3 grease gun was one of their primary weapons.

Thank you for your service Sir. Based on your description of the weapon I would say the weapon is more reliable in the field than an M4?

The gun laws make it difficult to get hold of new guns.

As has been said, this is almost certainly going to be a war era souveneir.
