If he uses the line “We rescued the economy.” It will become his anti-motto like “Mission Accomplished” followed Bush. As employment numbers and inflation stats pile on, he'll have this stupid statement hanging over him like Damocles’ sword.

Yep. People sitting at home after losing their job and finding no new prospects will not appreciate how the economy was “rescued”.

I think Rahm purposely threw the phrase ‘we rescued the economy’ out there to trial balloon it. Now that it is a headline Rahm and Obama WILL or WON’T see the people are laughing at them?

On a tangent, I never had a problem with the “Mission Accomplished” banner. The Lincoln was returning from the Middle East, where their mission was to provide air support for the removal of Saddam’s regime. The Lincoln was returning because their mission was.....accomplished! The fact that the war was not over is irrelevant to the mission that the carrier was given.

Bush’s biggest problem was if he (or any of his staff) thought the banner was applicable to the wider conflict. From the viewpoint of a crewman on the Lincoln (which I’m not), though, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED is well-deserved. The point was just lost on most....
