FDA Seeks Your Input on Tobacco Regulation
U.S. Food and Drug Administration ^ | June 30, 2009 | Barack Obama and Grant Junkie

Posted on 07/21/2009 7:49:36 PM PDT by Eric Blair 2084

On June 30, 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it is seeking public input on the implementation of its historic new authority overseeing tobacco products in the United States.

In a Federal Register notice, http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-15549.pdf , the agency invites the public to provide information and share views on a wide range of topics, from product content to advertising and marketing. All public comments will be posted online.

As FDA begins to implement its important new authority intended to reduce the enormous toll of suffering and death caused by tobacco products in the United States, FDA looks forward to receiving the public's response from across the country.

Here's my input. Ban tobacco if it kills the user and everyone around them instantly.

Otherwise, leave taxpaying citizens the Hell alone.

The govt takes jobs away, cars away, homes away (can’t sell it can’t afford to “upgrade” it) — nothing is left but to watch the propaganda on the tube waiting for my 5-year counselor to come and chat with me about taking my life away. I need a cigarette and a drink. Even congress should have a little humanity.

Much like a college program that accidentally paid athletes with sneakers and cash, I’d like to report myself to the NCAA for rules violations.

This probably doesn’t belong in announcements. Sorry.

I’m just wondering which cigarette will be more approved from the FDA than the others.

Can’t wait to see what the nifty seal of approval will look like....

Cigarettes now FDA approved—how cool is that!?

FDA and the IRS are now in cahoots.

They’ve been in cahoots for a while. Billions of dollars to be made.

MSA payments, tobacco revenue bonds, Big Pharma, State AGs....

The whole anti-tobacco crusade passed silly 7 years ago and went straight to fascism and racketeering.

Ban it already.

Agreed! When the tobacco "settlement," AKA the great shakedown, was just beginning, I wrote an email to RJ Reynolds and told them what they need to do is simply state to the government, "You know, you're right. Tobacco is bad, and we've profited from being bad. So from now on, we will no longer hurt good Americans. From this day forward, we're going to close down all of our plants here in the USA, we're no longer going to buy tobacco from American farmers, we're going to move all of our facilities overseas, and we'll no longer be selling tobacco products in the USA."

Can you imagine? The federal and state government's would have "s**t kittens!" As badly as they demonize smoking and tobacco, they depend on smokers to pay HUGE taxes. Wasn't it Ohio that had serious budget problems just a year or two ago, because their anti-smoking taxes had been a bit too effective? IIRC, the high taxes places on cigarettes, designed to discourage people from smoking, did just that. Surprise!!!! So fewer people smoked, and those who did smoked less. All of a sudden, the tax revenue began to drop. Who-da-thunk-it? Only liberals think that government actions happen in a vacuum. It seemed that the government was surprised when the taxes they were depending on didn't come in. Maybe they were just surprised that something that the government came up with actually worked as they advertised it!

Such hypocrisy! As if the government would actually “listen” to citizens on anything. I agree with you. Ban it or STFU and leave people alone.

Mark that has happened in every state that imposes these ominous taxes. And not one of them learns from the other states, they just keep trying it again, and again, and again.

I can’t tell them how I really feel without risking a visit from the secret service.

My son doesn’t believe second hand smoke is as deadly as they say.

To him, having heard years of wailing over it, yet still being alive nonetheless, it’s just like global warming hype.

It’s disgusting and smelly, but it’s not deadly.

I believe cancer to be more of a genetic issue.

Your son is smart. I hope all young people reject liberalism and statism like he did. There may be hope for the future.

You know the answer to that question. But we can’t say it without being politically incorrect.

I hope the Obama administration screws with smokers on an insanely unprecedented level. I'm pretty anti-smoking myself but the idea of Barack pissing off 43,000,000 adults on a daily basis just makes my heart leap for joy.
